I was thrilled when I saw Polly's Precious Metals mixed media challenge yesterday. Just the night before, I had saved the top layer of the kitchen towel from my spray box. Last used to spray gold paint on some clockwork die-cuts, with the negative making a wonderful design on all the previously sprayed Brusho acrylic mists. So I already had gold circles and two mediums!
I wanted to add more circles, and I wanted them to show against the background so that called for dimension - and a Diorama card.
So, the back of the card is the paper from my spray box.
The middle layer is the IO birch trees, cut from a rejected piece of wrinkle free distress with one of ODBD's hymns stamped on it. I also added a few cardinals flocking together.
The front piece is embossed with a clockwork ef to match the back, after cutting the aperture. Then I buffed in some luster rub-ons, and added white gel pen detailing around the aperture. The hello and the gold circles were cut from a tomato puree tube. For the little green parakeets flocking together, I rubbed some green card with Versamark and embossed with Iridescent Ice, so they sparkle. They and the cardinals have yellow Enamel Accents for their beaks.
This is my equivalent of what Susie calls "weirdo arty stuff". It was super-fun to make, but I couldn't imagine that I would ever send it to anyone. However, DH seems to really like it and says he will definitely send it to somebody, so I'll add a white panel onto the back for him to right on.
It's 1 1/2" deep, I made it a bit shallower than the tutorial so that I would have more width across the front.

Sabrina this is a masterpiece of mixed media!! I love that you instantly thought of your leftover gold sprayed paper towel to use for the bg...it's wonderful! And all the perfectly thought out and placed pieces..the trees, the birds, the yellow on the beaks....it's all so amazing!! And I LOVE how you placed the paarakeets on the gold rings...very clever! And the diorama box itself is awesome....I can see why your DH would love this too. WOW WOW WOW!!!
