Sweet Melon Picnic Basket
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: sarahk47

For the picnic basket, I started with 1/2" strips of one design of the Wood Textures dsp stack. I wove these together until I thought I could make a basket out of it. I glued the ends so the woven paper would stay in place, then cut off any excess paper. I cut flaps, as if making a box, folded it all together, and adhered with Tear & Tape. Then decorated the basket. The doily has to go on first. Then I cut a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock for the bottom of the inside of the basket and one for each of the short ends (this is mainly to cover up the doily scraps on the inside of the basket, because the doily is folded in). I cut 1/2" strips of a contrasting paper (the same paper I used for the handle) and curved these around the outside corners (to hide uneven holes in the basket weave and reinforce the basket).

Important! Fill your basket with treats before giving it a handle -- it's prettier this way (I tried it the other way). After the treats were in, I added a 1/2" x 6" strip of the contrasting paper for the handle. Then I put the ribbon around the top edge of the basket with Tear & Tape. I put the largest size of Clear Faceted Gems on where the handle meets the basket.

For the treat bag inside, I used a 3-3/4" x 6" cello bag (not SU). I put it inside the basket to fill it to make sure I didn't end up overfilling it. I tied it closed with the ribbon. For the tag, I used strips of Whisper White cardstock and the wood paper. The gingham print on the tag is from the Tabs For Everything stamp set (the stamp with a bunch of horizontal lines -- stamp it once, then turn it 90 degrees and stamp again). The watermelon rind is a scalloped circle stamp from Tabs for Everything. I colored it in with the Flirty Flamingo marker. Then I stamped the watermelon seeds (candle flames stamp from Tabs for Everything) in Memento Tuxedo Black and punched out the watermelon with the 3/4" circle punch. "You're Sweet" comes from Sweet Cupcake.

Great gift basket. You have given us such clear instructions here! Love the cherry cobbler with the wood textures. TFS
