I created this box to hold a gift card for a friend's son who recently graduated from junior college. The school colors are purple & gold, so I used those for the box. I did have a bit of trouble with this one. It started out OK, but I had to rip the box surround apart twice before I got everything to work properly, even with following the instructions. I used 2 of the "Labels Twenty-Five" dies to cut the labels for the top of the box, one from a grey dot paper & the other from purple cardstock. I also used a "Labels Wavy" die to cut the oval for the greeting from cream cardstock. I inked the edges of each label with Hickory Smoke, and glued on purple & yellow buttons. After the glue was dry, I poked holes through the cardstock, and threaded crochet twine through the buttons, tying it in a knot in each. Then I adhered it to my box surround with Scor Tape. My first major problem was with the slider mechanism. I used cardstock, as I understood in the tutorial, but it just kind of rolled up whenever I pulled the box out. That basically defeated the purpose of a slider mechanism. Tear-apart #1. I finally went through the comments on the tutorial, and learned I wasn't the only one having such a problem. So for my next attempt, I decided to go with chipboard for the slider frame, which worked beautifully. I used a "crystal" button as a drawer pull, coloring it with alcohol ink & sticking an orange brad through the holes. I also threaded twine through the holes of the button (before putting the brad in), pierced 2 holes in the drawer front, threaded the twine through those, and tied it in a knot inside the box. I did use Multi Medium Matte to glue the button on; the twine was just to reinforce it. I also created a tag for the other side of the slider (not pictured), using more of the grey dot paper for the end, cut with a "Tag Toppers" die. After I'd finished everything, I was pulling the drawer to make sure it worked right. Then the plastic bag strip I'd used broke! Pull apart #2. This time, instead of a Wal Mart shopping bag, I cut a strip from a bread bag. That worked much better--still slid like it was supposed to, but didn't break. I guess the third time was the charm! I put the gift card in the bottom of the box, added Hershey's Nuggets that I'd wrapped in patterned paper strips on top to hide it, wrote an inspirational quote on the tag, and I was done!
