Hello stamping friends. I’d like to share my 3D Starfish Necklace with you today. Finished size is approximately 1.5” x 1.5” (not including the bail) x .25 inches thick. It uses only two sizes of seed beads. The blue beads are size 8/0 and the lime green are size 11/0 seed beads. I used a sew-on rhinestone (Montee) for the center. You will use 3 bead stitches to complete the Starfish – a variation of Peyote and Herringbone and also the Brick stitch for the bail. I am a novice beader but was able to follow along with the help of this video tutorial. Kudos to Kelly Dale at Off The Beaded Path for her excellent instruction and sharp, close-up video. Thank you Kelly! I really enjoyed making this fun project. If you are interested in making this Starfish or would like to see how it is made, here is a link to Kelly’s tutorial:
I also made the cord for the necklace. It is made with two colors of blue C-Lon cord. I started with 8 lengths of cord measuring 2 yards each. The technique is known as Kumihimo braid. I used my Kumihimo Disk to make the braid until the finished length was 18” long. I finished off the braid with end caps and attached a chain to make the length adjustable to 22 inches if I need a longer necklace for an outfit.
I am really pleased with how this necklace turned out. I also enjoy mixed media and I see a great opportunity to use one of these starfish in a shrine or shadowbox in the future. Perhaps a mermaid holding a starfish? LOL The sky is the limit.
Thanks for visiting my gallery today.
I hope you are enjoying a great summer.

Thank you so much for commenting on my cards, especially as I learnt a new "weirdo" saying AND it lead me to your gallery. Your projects are jaw dropping gorgeous. TFS.

Ooooh, do I ever love your handmade necklace. Love the star as well. I have a few outfits this would complement perfectly, Deb. I don't know one thing about beads, but I have to guess you were very specific about your sizes and directions. yup, it would also look good on a shadow box, too. This is really a neat necklace.
