Back Door Solution

Poster: momof5sons

One thing that has always bothered me is how the inside space of the door is wasted. I hit upon the idea of using it for my punches and some ribbon and designed this for my craft room. After supplying him with measurements DH built the frame and bored the holes for the racks. The holes for the large dowels need to have small tolerance to support the punches. This works for me because I can see the punch design and just reach for the one that I need. The holes for the small dowels need some wiggle room so that I can remove them to remove or replace rolls of ribbon.
The frame is screwed into the door of my craft room.
Things to learn from our experience:
1) If using a newly replaced door, make sure that the doorknob is in place before you measure (don't ask...)
2) Make sure that your spacing will accommodate the size punch that you intend to store.
3) Make sure to use a dowel strong enough to support many rolls of ribbon. Careful, though - the holes in ribbon spools are not all the same size.
4) You can trim the dowels to be flush or leave a few inches on the ends for holding totes etc. I have scissors tied to one of them.
5) Unless you are very tall, store your seasonal ribbon on the top dowel.

I have SNS paper storage and don't know what I would do without them. They are sturdier and better crafted than any paper storage units I have seen. Thanks SNS for the push to share this solution. Thank you all for looking and have a peaceful day.

This looks like a brilliant idea, Marie, really well done! I love that everything can be seen at a glance - what a handy hubby you have! I'm pretty sure mine would be able to do one for me too!
