Finally, my card for the MIX34 challenge - to use any two types of paint for your project (ink, acrylic, watercolor, gesso, Smooch...
The background started out as a reject from a previous MIX challenge to use bleach. After spraying a piece of dark sienna cs with bleach I used a "cracked" stencil and sponged on Black Soot Distress paint. After it dried I moved the stencil between colors and added Colorbox Gold and Copper inks. It looked awful, so I covered it with a light layer of gesso and filed it away. This challenge seemed like a good time to pull it out.
I scribbled metallic gold, orange, red and black gelato in various layers, misting with water and blending with my fingers. There's a very fine sheen from the metallic gelato. Next, modeling paste was applied through a tree stencil and painted with a black Wink of Stella brush pen when dry. It gave the trees an awesome gold shimmer that doesn't show in the picture, but you get a hint of it in the jack-o-lantern's face, the ghost's eyes, and the bats. The bats are mounted on different thicknesses of pop dots, and the top of the fence pickets have rolled glue dots behind each one. The pumpkin is mounted on dimensionals as well.
It took me forever to come up with an idea for what should have been a fairly simple challenge, but I like how it turned out.
As always, thanks for looking!
