Friday's Mix-Ability challenge was a good one for me as I've been wanting to try doing beautiful winter scenes like I've seen others do on SCS. I also wanted to practice masking images while stamping as I'm not very good at it so used two different masking techniques - one for sponging and one for stamping.
First I made a mask of my larger single evergreen and a mask of the bottom edge of the Scenic Season stamp so that I could avoid getting the lines that go under each tree. I laid those two masks down and then inked up and stamped off once the Scenic Season stamp (with the bird wiped off after inking) - I stamped it on my card in the background. I removed both masks and stamped the large evergreen full strength in the same ink once where its mask had been and again over on the right. I then cut masks for the hills of snow and sponged on the tops of them, with more sponging off in the distance where it would look darker. I added a touch of very pale grey sponging to the sky for the look of a sky on a cold dull winter day. At the end I took my Versamarker and added a few splotches of ink on the foreground trees and embossed those with white embossing powder for bits of snow clinging to the branches. And added the sentiment "winter" in the bottom left as it looked kind of blank down there.
I trimmed down the image and popped it up on dimensionals on a 4.75" square cardbase.
Phew! Masking is a lot of work and takes more time to make a card, even when you're trying to keep the card looking CAS!

Well done on all the extra effort you took to make this scene. You are obviously very skilled as this would have taken a lot of planning to get it right. And you got it so right!! Thanks for playing along with my challenge.

Susan, you did a beautiful job! Your soft hints of color are perfect for this scene! I've tried this but mine came out drab. I love the faded trees in the background!

Wow! This is really really pretty! It looks really hard to do too. I am sure your friend will love the card.
