This is a fun technique! I used watercolor paper and really like the results.
I used Stampin' Up! re-inkers Real Red and Kiwi Kiss. Kiwi Kiss is retired but I believe that Crushed Olive distress ink would give you similar results as far as color goes. I used watercolor paper rather than glossy cardstock as well.
To create my background paper I used an Aqua Painter and put a few drops of each ink onto my craft sheet. (separate puddles ;) ) I then painted my watercolor paper with the Kiwi Kiss covering most of the paper and then came back with the Real Red and filled in the white spaces and wherever I felt I wanted more red. I then used some salt from our bag of ice and snow melter (we live in Wisconsin ). I then gave a few squirts of water from a spray bottle and let it sit for awhile and dry on its own. Once it was dry I dusted off the salt and trimmed it to the size I needed, inked the edges a bit and applied to my card.

Me, too! This salt effect looks super! I think it would make AWESOME poinsettias or flowers, too. I wish I knew what inks you used and how you put them on and so on. I would like to try to duplicate as closely as I can, the color combo for flowers, as I aforementioned. Thanks for pm-ing me w/info if you will, please.
