I wanted to make a light-hearted birthday card that was befitting either a male or female recipient. This is what I came up with on my initial attempt.
CARD (5.5” wide x 4.25” tall)
Front Image: Cupcake with Candle
Front Sentiment: “At Your Age…”
Inside Sentiment: “What’s another friggin’ candle? Happy Birthday!”
I constructed the card base from kraft cardstock and attached a front panel. The front panel I created from light blue cardstock and layered it with royal blue cardstock and a multi-colored plaid designer paper. To add a little pizzazz I attached a brown organdy ribbon and bow.
For the focal point of the front panel I stamped a cupcake on white cardstock, colored it using gamsol and colored pencils, and then fussy cut it out (including the bite mark). To add dimension to the cupcake I frosted it with liquid snow and painted it with shimmer paints to give it a shiny chocolate appearance. To make the candle flame glisten I applied diamond glaze.
I created an oval plate from light blue cardstock and affixed it to the front panel. I popped the completed cupcake off the top of the plate using foam dimensionals. As the final element I printed "At Your Age..." on an oval of white cardstock and matted it with light blue cardstock before attaching it to the front panel.
I created the inside panel from white cardstock and printed "What's another friggin' candle? Happy Birthday!" on it. To decorate it I added a strip of the plaid paper and topped it with a cupcake punched from yellow cardstock. I completed the panel by matting it with light blue cardstock.
I also custom made an envelope to compliment the card. I decorated it with a strip of the plaid paper and 3 punched cupcakes.
