It's Steampunk Marie! - Marie Curie that is. This twinchie was made for our Pick A Theme swap that is due in a few days. My swap mate chose Marie Curie for her theme. This is what I learned in my research if you are not familiar:
Marie Sklodowska Curie 1867 - 1934
Marie Curie was a renowned physicist and chemist. She was a pioneer of radioactivity and discovered two elements called polonium and radium. She also contributed to the first studies in the treatment of cancers using radioactive isotopes. In the world of chemistry, the element with atomic number 96 called Curium is named after Marie Curie and her husband. Curie (Ci) is also the symbol of radioactivity in recognition of their significant work in this field. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the first great person to be awarded with two Nobels Prizes during her lifetime.
She died on July 4, 1934 in France after battling leukaemia briefly which she contracted due to her exposure to the dangerous radioactive radiations.
Wow, now that's one impressive chic way ahead of her time! I just couldn't shake the whole Steampunk idea, so here is my first attempt.
I first altered the photo by adding gears in different sizes and shapes. Of course Steampunk Marie needs a top hat, so I added that as well. I used a Scrabble Tile to feature the element Curium and added a screw eye from the hardware store to hang it.
She doesn't look too interested in my alterations.
I think she just wants to get back to work.
My favorite Marie Curie quote:
"Nothing in life is to be feared.
It is only to be understood."
Way to go, Marie - you rock!
