Congratulations to my friend Linda, aka "snail" here on SCS, for being chosen QUEEN FOR THE DAY today! She is so sweet, helpful, and leaves the most encouraging comments. I generally don't do the CASE-ing games/challenges (I find it so intimidating!!), but wanted to try to do something to honor Linda on her special day. I chose this wonderful "Snail's Portrait" card to CASE: FTTC54 Snail's Portrait by snail at Splitcoaststampers
I have been making a set of bird note cards for my sister and today I needed to make a holder for them. I made this notes folder and was inspired by Linda's card to use the book plate hardware to hold my sentiment and a similar ribbon treatment. Of course, as you can see, the shape/colors of my folder differ drastically (I wanted it to coordinate with the colors of my cards and match the shapes of the envelopes, etc.). I really like how she double matted her image, with the lower layer being beautiful patterned paper. I thought I'd try for a similar effect and decided to try today's Make a Quilt Free-for-All challenge, using scraps of paper left from making my set of note cards.
Linda does *beautiful* watercolor painting on most of her cards. Although all of my note cards in this set feature this same birdie, I paper pieced him throughout. To honor Linda's love of watercoloring, I watercolored my birdie for the folder front. I finally cut into my good 140-lb Canson watercolor paper today, just for you, Linda! So this was my first time painting on the good stuff--and I'm afraid it shows--so please be gentle! I'm stilllllllll learning . . .
Enjoy being QUEEN today, Linda!! You definitely deserve it for being such a kind and encouraging member of the SCS community and taking part in the daily challenges I salute you!!
Thanks for looking!
Emily

Emily, I immediately saw your fabulous watercoloring on that fabulous stash of #140 paper! Linda will so appreciate your effort to watercolor and your image is just lovely. No need to apologize for your 'first' effort; it looks fabulous to me. I know Linda will be honored to see what you've gone and done in her honor. Emily, this is a wonderful note holder!

Emily, my dear, you really know how to get some challenges going on. So pretty and I'm loving your little singing bird. I see you used your watercolor paper and did a very good job indeed. O.K., with all those punches and weight loss from using them, you are probably just a puff of smoke now. LOL Love your wonderful creation!!!

I saw the card you made for the Stampin'B's challenge -- commented on the music background. I see you brought a little piece of that music paper to your folder, too. Great way to "package" your note cards.

Sweet! Love your note card holder. Great job on all those challenges and it's good to see you are still actively 'exercising' with your punches...

That is a great holder for all those beautiful bird cards you have made!! I really like that accent of the music, it looks like the bird is singing to me.

I love that punched bar of music - so neat. I am with you on finding the CASEing challenges hard, I just can't get my head around them. Not so much intimidated, but it's not the way I work. Lovely watercolouring in Linda's honour. Especially in the bird, the way it's shaded.
Curious about the Punchez I keep seeing in your write-up.
