Well, I pulled another all nighter...Happy Birthday to my son Dallas. He is 13 years old today. WOW! I remember this day 13 years ago trying to drive with my husband to the hospital because we were in the middle of a SNOW BLIZZARD in Minnesota. I closed my eyes all the way to the hospital of 15 miles. It was pretty wicked!
Like I mentioned in the post earlier for my mom's card that I made yesterday here IC223 Happy Birthday Mom by okstamper at Splitcoaststampers I was thrilled to have been asked by Stef to use the Warm Biscuit kids bedding store here http://warmbiscuit.com/ as the Inspiration Challenge. I was browsing fabrics one day and thought it was a great idea to use.
I got started late on the my son's card because I really didn't know what I wanted to do. Plus, I couldn't think straight. I've only been up for 2 days with minimal sleep...been finishing up a quilt for church for our auction. Anyhow, I decided to make a football card gift card holder instead of a bank shown here http://warmbiscuit.com/footballbank.html . The doctors used to tease me when my kids were born and people still do. You already have your own football team started. Dallas weighed in at 10lbs and Cody at 11 1/2 pounds when they were born. And they both love football. I started out by using a football image from my quilt book and traced it. I cut it out to make a template and traced it twice...one for the card base and one to work with as a separate piece. Set card base aside. I used the cb mesh folder in 3 different sections on the football shape on kraft c/s. I did the middle section first because it leaves indents. I continued with the 2 sides. I used the scor pal to mark my white lines from the template and cut to the form of the football twice. Used cb folder as well. Set aside. I wanted the football to look realistic so I colored it using the Harvest Orange colored marker all over it. This part took the longest. I then used versamark, clear emboss powder, and heat set for the look I was trying to get. I made a piece of strip and cut 5 small pieces for the fingergrips section of the football and they are held on with pop dots for diminsions. I adhered the white stripes to the football at this time too. I made a slit towards the top to make a card the size of a gift card to slide in and out. I had a difficult time trying to figure something out for the black trim, so I decided to use pieces of jewerly cording and thin tacky tape. Does it look ok? I also wanted to put his age on the football, so I used Sizzix die cuts for the numbers. I adhered the football to the base of the card. I really enjoyed making this card for Dallas. He enjoys receiving handmade cards from me. I wanted it to be special and I put alot of thought into this one. I stamped the inside with stars along the edges and used the sentiment from the Button Bear set. Have a wonderful weekend! Thanks for looking and your comments are always appreciated.
What do you think? I think I need to go to bed, its 5:19am and we have things to do later.

Bonnie, this is so cool. You did put a lot of thought into it and it comes through - he will absolutely love it. I can't believe all the steps you took to get this look (actually, I can since you do that all the time with your quilts). Wonderful card! Now go get some sleep!
