Oh my, this week we teapotters are remembering past Christmas or writing a wish list for the best possible present....
I've had many wonderful holidays since, but the one best was my 17th yr. We didn't have much money and after about age 12 our Christmas and B-day presents were combined. This yr. I wrote on my wish list a portable TV as I was thinking ahead to college and dorm room. Well, Mom told me they were thinking that far ahead too, and would get me that if I'd rather have the TV than the sewing machine....OMG!!! My very own sewing machine!!! I tell you, I was slack jawed cuz I knew it had to be more expensive than the TV...Oh wowsers, I was delerious...I knew that Mom's motivation was to protect her precious machine from my "winged creature out of the netherworld" style of sewing, but I didn't care. I was getting my own sewing machine!!!....Now in those days, they were pretty basic and had only straight, zig zag, button hole and couple mending stitches, but oh you should see the pile of clothes I have sewn on that little machine.
So I dug it out of it's recent retirement to do this card. I sewed on the dp and the lace trim. Not real sure and may have to redo some of this one. just wasn't coming together as planned. And yes, I know the wording is spelled wrong...LOL!! my best friend always spells it that way, and when I saw this stamp, I just had to get it... the roses were stamped and embossed in gold and then colored and cut out...
TFL..

I am loving each Christmas memory here, and yours touches my heart! Your own machine! Woo-hoooo! It is precious that your mom could see what you really needed, and sweet that you enjoyed it more than a TV! How delightful that you used that very machine on this sweet card! Your card is vintage-lovely and I can see it is sewn with care! Your distressing, bitty buttons and dew drops make this a jaw-dropper. Thanks so much for sharing!

What a lovely story - I really enjoyed reading it. My first own machine was a manual when I was about 7, but when I was about 24 my bro got an old Singer at a market and did it up for me for Christmas. It wasn't a thing of beauty, but it was lovely not having to go home to my mother every time I wanted to sew!!
You calling straight, zig-zag and button-hole basic, LOL!! I have an old Singer a friend of my mother's gave me when she stopped sewing - forward and reverse is it. But when I had a repair guy out for my Brother, he recognised the very exact model from the shape of the case, and told me never, ever to sell it or give it away. I use it still for heavy stuff like leather, and it's why very few of my cards that have sewing at all have zigzag. I like the old-fashioned feel to your roses and lace and gold embossing. Very Victorian.

What a wonderful and special gift!! You know, not all 17 year old young ladies even know how to use a sewing machine!! I'm impressed!! Your card is absolutely gorgeous! Love the paper and lace, and I love that you sewed them on to the card!!! This is so beautiful!! Thanks for sharing your story and your wonderful card, and thanks for coming to the tea party!!

I love this picture, your card, and your story. What a special memory - and how wonderful you still have it and are still sewing with it. I hope it doesn't get jealous of your new machine! This card is beautiful and I love the spelling on the sentiment. TFS!

Oh this is gorgoeus! I love the lace and sewing, and you have SUCH a wonderful story behind your creation! It's lovely that you took the photo of the card next to the sewing machine too - I just love those really special cards that come from the heart like yours does.
