TLC205 Americana Family

Poster: okstamper

Ok, I really struggled with the pleats...yes, I went through some c/s and ideas. I mean ideas from dresses, skirts, window awnings, and so on. Then messed up on the folds. Then, guess what happened next, a light bulb in my head says...make pleated flags. Why did it take me all day to figure that out? Gees, I called myself a dork a few times too.

Today, for the New Technique Challenge we were to use Pleated Papers in our card designs. I finally decided to do the Americana Pleated Flags. I made the scene like our house in Minnesota where we used to live. Miss it so much. Anyhow, I started with watercolor paper (120lb), took my foam brush and used several ink colors to create the background. I made the circle for the sun with the cm circle punch and sponged it using orange/yellow. Attached it using foam tape. I then made the fence using MS fence border punch and left it with 1 1/2 inches of excess white to hang my flags on. The flags were very easy to do...1 inch width, 1/4 inch folds, and 22 rows with my score pal. I then folded accordingly and made it into a half circle and glued on the wall of the fence. I added 2 star brads and a yellow ribbon with hot glue for the centers. I felt that it needed something on the fence, so I added ribbon along with glitter glue for the top of the flags.

I stamped the house with black ink onto watercolor paper as well. I used Prismacolor pencils, blending stumps, and odorless mineral spirits. Cut out. I hand made the flag that is on the house. I used liquid applique for the smoke and colored it gray. The house, smoke, car, and family members are attached with foam tape. I had these dollar clear stamps of family members with a car. I stamped and cut out each one, including the car. My husband thinks I am nuts. I stamped some trees right on the b/g, then went back and stamped 4 more trees, cut out and attached with foam tape too. The 3D trees are embossed with clear powder. Do you see the snowman? I used 3 different size pop dots to create it. I put the kids in the snow (which is liquid applique), dad in the car, and me in the warm house.
I stamped, cut out, and added the geese to the sky. After everything was in place, I went back with the foam brush on the thin side and softly marked the driveway.

I didn't really think this was going to be like this at all, but seeing how we have unpredictable weather here in Oklahoma I decided to do it this way. I also didn't know what to name this card.

I hope you like what I have done here. Thanks for the wonderful challenge with the pleats. Sorry for the long story.

Have a wonderful night and keep warm!

Bonnie

Bonnie, I see that you're warm in the house. Very creative. Love everything about this, even the cute snowman.

I'm glad you thought of the flags - they look just great. I had trouble with mine too, several tries were discarded. And not as if I haven't succesfully done fans and dresses before...
I really like that goose flying overhead, I can just hear it!

This is absolutely precious. How creative to come up with the patriotic banner flags. Sometimes it just takes a few trys to come up with a mini masterpiece. This looks like s small town parade event.

Bonnie~ this is really cute! You have combined so many sets, and your scenery is just beautiful! I love the pleated flags. They remind me of those grand homes that use those flags on the wrap around porches. 'Warm Fuzzies'. Good job!
