Default WT1015 - All At Sea - 08/22/2024

It's Sabrina here as your hostess this week, and today we are "all at sea". My theme is inspired by the combination of the fact that it's the anniversary of America winning the 1st America's Cup in 1851, and birth of Annie Prieux , author of The Shipping News.
Wikipedia tells us that The America's Cup is the oldest competition in international sport, and believed to be the fourth oldest continuous sporting trophy of any kind The cup itself was manufactured in 1848 and first called the "RYS £100 Cup". It was first raced for on 22 August 1851 around the Isle of Wight off Southampton and Portsmouth in Hampshire, England, in a fleet race between the New York Yacht Club's America and 15 yachts of the Royal Yacht Squadron. The race was witnessed by Queen Victoria and the future Edward VII and won by America. This is considered to be the first America's Cup race.

I have certainly read The Shipping New, but I have to confess I don't remember it. Whereas most days I hear the shipping forecast for the UK inshore and offshore waters once if not twice. It's an almost hypnotic piece of broadcasting. It's much less relevant these days when there are so many other sources of weather forecasts and more technology and they now only broadcast it at 00.48 and 05.20, but I once worked for a retired admiral, and he still liked to listen to it every day (there was a more manageable bulletin around 17.55 till quite recently). It was established as a telegraphic service way back in 1861by Vice-Admiral FitzRoy (who had commanded the HMS Beagle), and then became a radio broadcast in 1924. One of the sea areas was renamed after FitzRoy in 2002 - it had previously been known as Finisterre, and the Spanish meteorological office had a different sea area by the same name.

So, please feature any ocean-going sailing craft on your cards today - yachts, liners, cruise ships, dinghies,

After you've created your card, upload it with the keyword WT1015, and then come back and share a link here - that makes it easy for people to find your card in case of keyword typos or gallery glitches.

Here's a link to our WT1015 All At Sea gallery

Here's a link to my sample: Cook22's Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

If you're not sure how to add a link, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one for your card in the gallery, and one for this thread
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

My thanks, as always go to the team who have taken to the sea wonderfully.

Sabrina a great challenge today!
Inside it says, "One finished its course. The other sank. Follow the Lord in your plans, He will never steer you wrong." Computer generated.

Awesome challenge, Sabrina. I have so many nautical stamps that have been so neglected so I am really happy you motivated me to use them today! They are some of my favorites.
Here is my card:

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the remaining bit of summer, everyone. Wish I was out on a real sailboat today.
