AUG09VSBNQ ~ Aug 30, 2009 ~ 2:00 PM ~ High School Memories
Title: High School Memories
Hostess: Charlsanne ~cla616~
Keyword: AUG09VSBNQ
Day/Date: Sunday, August 30, 2009
Time: 2:00 PM (EST)
First of all I am thrilled to be a hostess for this VSBN round. I think this theme is so important to all of us, as we normally find ourselves behind the camera instead of in front of it. However, for this challenge I want you to reach back in history a little bit. If you are like me you may have started scrapping later in life. I actually became introduced to the idea of scrapbooking in the spring of 2004. My mom worked diligently on a beautiful scrapbook to present to my husband and I as part of our wedding gift. Once I saw the work she was doing I was hooked and ready to continue on what she had begun.
Well having started later in life I didnt get a chance to properly document my younger years (ok I know I am only 33, but hey I still missed out on a lot of valuable scrapping opportunities).
So my challenge to you today is to dig out those old High School Yearbooks. Find a Picture of yourself from highschool it can be your school portrait or just a candid shot during that time.
I want you to scrap some HS pictures using your School Colors only plus one neutral. Mine were green and blue. Use your yearbook for inspiration, maybe grab some quotes from it, funny sayings your friends left for you, and just go with it.
Make an embellishment using your school colors a flower, something with chipboard, brads in an interesting pattern, or print out your mascot and add to your page.
I also would love to see journaling of some of the activities you were involved in during high school. Maybe you werent directly involved in anything during high school but you worked instead what was your job? Any other activities maybe league play for the community?
Didn't go to high school? Can't find those yearbooks? Then scrap a picture or two (or three) from your teen years. Let us know the activities you were involved in. I still want you to play, so just choose 2 colors plus a neutral to complete your page.
I think you get the picture, but I will be here if you have any questions along the way. This can be a single or double page spread, whatever you might need.
You can view My Sample and my Layout Inspiration (which was the cover of my yearbook from Freshman year) below. Feel free to use my layout if you are having trouble or need some inspiration too
1. ALL VSBN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH.
2. You have 2 hours to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, AUG09VSBNQ , when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure you layout is seen.

Very good challenge Charlsanne and one I can totally do. I was a cheerleader in HS for 5 years and I recently found the professional photo taken at that time and was going to scrap it anyway! Since my school colors were blue and white..do I need another color in there?
Man, I wish I didn't go to HS! LOL Seriously, it was a great time with great friends.
Now, what if one of the 2 school colors IS a neutral? :P No worries, I got it figured out. I hope I can get to this one, I think I can! Fun!!

Not if you don't need it!!

hehe, we were the seahawks. I wasn't really sure how I was going to do my page at first, then just decided to try and do one for each year of highschool, so at some point I will incorporate the mascot as well

OK. I'm back. Got company when I started to set up my scanner and scrapping stuff. My DGS had his party here yesterday and EVERYTHING was put away so now the search is on for things to scrap with but I figured if I scanned my photo, I can do it by digi! Gotta go find the table to set the Scanner on now!
Oh I'll definately be doing this one - I have hundreds of hs pictures to scrap. My colours are the unfortunate green and gold and mascot was a wizened old guy in a kilt. We were the Campbell Tartans (fierce, I know - watch out or I'll blind you with my deadly plaid and sporran!).

The bird on the stationery just looks like a seagull! And on the wall in the gym, and on the wall in the office... it looks NOTHING like an eagle! Chalk it up to bad art.

hehe, can't believe you didn't know all this time Kirsten.
Thankfully my HS colors are much easier to work with than college, some day I will do some of those too, but they are Burgundy and Bright Orange, talk about a great combo???

Sorry... do I come acrossed as negative as I feel....
Thanks for your PM's and suggestions...... I guess I better fix my post, It really wasn't as bad as it maybe sounded. I was sort of being sarcastic. My high school days are not something that I look back on with much fondness. I was teased and tormented beyond belief and I left the night I graduated and have never looked back.
And YES!!!! because of those days.... I am the strong-willed person that I am today. I don't care what other people think of me and yet I have never intentionally tried to harm or hurt anyone else's feelings, ever! I am determined to be someone special even though nobody from my hometown will ever think that I am. It has been a long road for me in lots of ways, and it has been really hard to get and stay close to people because I am always looking over my shoulder for the stab in the back! Thanks to a very loving and patient Hubby... I have learned to trust again.
my post was not meant to be a negative comment towards the challenge or the host.... Just thoughts over my lips!
That is VERY cook how you have CASE'd your yearbook!!!!!!
This is a great challenge!!!
Great Sample page Charlsanne!!
I pulled out some high school picts but our school colors were purple and white so this may be challenging. I'm hoping to find some "cheer" picts so it will be easy to use colors and photos. I'll have to see what I can come up with

oh Anavon, I don't take it that way at all, in fact I think you embraced the challenge perfectly, find a pic from that timeframe, and tell us how that era has made you grow. I have both fond and bad memories too, but I think it's all a learning experience that prepares us later in life, just like it did for you.
I think you are a fabulous woman, and am so honored to know you, and hope to meet you someday in all of our travels (oh yea plus I have to check out your cooking - you make me drool everytime I read your blog or posts)

I pulled out lots of pictures from high school in prep. for VSBN-so I can't wait to get to this challenge. My colors were red and white and I was in the band. Our mascot was a cardinal. Kirsten-that's so funny about you thinking the eagle was a seagull! (well, at least you thought it was some type of bird-hee,hee)

OK...finally done in between all the kiddie interruptions! I scanned my cheerleading pic in order to restore the color (quite faded with ahem...age), then I scanned my senior year book cover and tried to fade it out some (it couldn't have just faded like the pic, you know!) and then I tried to find a pic in my yearbook of our mascot, the bear. The only one I found was of my friend actually wearing the costume and boy did it look ratty! Not good so I logged onto the current school website and found the current logo. Much different than back then but usable. I copied it and pasted it to a new file in PSE then lassoed it out of the page and put it in a file by itself. Then I was able to move it onto my digipage and I tried to lighten the color but couldn't figure out how to do so without actually changing the color and it needed to stay blue and white. TFL!
Here is my page. My highschool colors were maize and blue. Our mascot was a tiger but I did not think he would look good on my page! My embellishment flowers were white and I sponged them a light yellow. TFL
I also love how everyone's spread is completely different, it's fun reading about everyone in the old days
