I am interested in the Xyron sticker maker. Has anyone used this machine. I'm wondering if this is an item that I should get. Any information about it would be helpful.
I Love mine, I own 2 the X and the 500 series. I use it all the time for die-cuts, ribbon and the 500 is good for layers. I have never heard a complant from anyone except people that buy the really expensives versions that can do more then place adhesive on to paper, fabric, ribbon, ect...
I have the Xyron 510 (Creative Station) and a X. I'd recommend that you get cartridges with removeable adhesive vs. permanent. The only thing I don't like about my Xyron is the excess sticky that gets on the edges or in the holes of something. I find I have to clean around it by rolling it into what looks like a rubber cement blob.
I have an X and the 900. Love my xyrons. Use the x for tiny things, or already cut things. Use the 900 to do full sheets of cardstock before diecutting them.
I use the xyron adhesive rolls without the machines. I use the 250 to resticky my CraftRobo mat and for larger pieces. I use the X adhesive for small diecuts. To get rid of some of the adhesive that tends to get on the edges, use a stylus or a pens and outline your piece before you take off the plastic top layer. An adhesive eraser also works great at removing the "glue boogers" (at least thats what they remind me of).
A friend & I took a class and several of the students, including us, were using a Xyron for the small parts of an image. The teacher told us this hint - it really works and is worth the effort. After you run your items through your Xyron and have cut the tape, go around all the images with a small, blunt end tool (i.e. tip of small embossing tool, pen that no longer writes, etc.). Make sure to go around in the small openings like the center of the letter 'o' etc. I guess it separates the gummy adhesive. When you remove the thin clear sheet, you don't get those stringy adhesive thingies. I know some of you might think it is too much work to do this but it really works and you don't have to rub the image after attaching it to your backing.
Love the Xyron even more for attaching small items now that I use this hint. Makes layering the Cricut images/parts so easy and not so frustrating. I use the X tape alone and the 510 tape with the machine.

I love mine. It doesn't get used a whole lot. But boy when I need a whole lot of adhesive layed out quickly and it is the right size to fit in the machine, it is my go to! I love the idea to put adhesive onto cardstock BEFORE cutting on the cricut. And I love the tip about using the stylus before removing the clear sheet. With those two tips I might be reaching for my Xyron alot more!
I love that they have the carts that laminate. I dabble in cake decorating and used my xyron to laminate flower nail templates and color flow templates. it was easier for me than trying not to waste too much of one of those expensive self laminating sheets.
I love my Xyrons! I have the little X, the 250 and 900 and I wouldn't be without them. They don't get used a lot.. as I only use them for special projects, not general adhesive, but the convenience just can't be beat. I love it for things like altered journals, or anytime I need to cover a large surface. I love the little X for ribbon, and small die cuts. Wonderful machines, and well worth the cost. You will not be disappointed. I wouldn't use it as my general adhesive, as that would be cost prohibitive (I use my ATG for that), but for large areas and tiny things, they are fantastic!!
I also use a stylus around the edges before I remove the backing, and don't have any problems of glue boogers either.

I recently purchased one and now wonder how I ever lived without it. It is wonderful for attaching things that you cut out with your cuttlebug/wizard/sizzix. I just used it today to attach square frames that I made to a piece of acetate. Brilliant! I don't know how I would have done it without it. Also for using SU punches such as the Bird one with the branch, and the Owl one. Letters, small pieces of the Build A Bear. My only regret is that I didn't get it sooner. I have the little X one and the 250 (I think that is what they are called) and love love love them.
Ok I'm the odd duck here. I have the X and I hate it. In fact I've been cleaning my craft space and that is one item that I put in the box to give to the Goodwill.
I tried and tried and think its a big waste of money. Everything I have put through it does not get good even coverage and the amount of adhesive stuck to all the edges is really a pain in the butt.
For ribbon I use a little tombo adhesive and it does just fine. For die cuts I use mono and I love that, I just put a dot here and there and have never had anything fall apart.
Thanks for all the info. Now I have to decide which one I want to start with. I have a cricut and it can be a pain to try to glue the cutouts down. which one to get HMMMMM........

Consider the cost of the refills when deciding which one to buy. I have the 250 and love it for small items. The X seemed a bit too small for me. Most larger cutouts are easier (and less expencive) to just to use glue. The negative comments I have seen were about to cost of the larger refills.
ok I went out today and got the X for starters All I can say is why did I wait for so long to get one. I am hooked!!! I can't believe how easy it was to figure out how to use it.

I was at Hobby Lobby the other day, and the price sticker had $19.99 on all of the big cartridges (900 machine). They weren't on sale. It has been awhile since I have needed a new cartridge, but seems like it has come way down in price. With a coupon, that makes buying a cartridge super reasonable... they last a very long time, of course, depending on how you are using it.
I think at Michael's the price of the '510' refill was $17.99- not the laminate or magnetic ones. I used a coupon so it wasn't that bad considering I have had my 510 machine over a year and this is the first refill I have bought. JoAnn's price was a little higher but you can also use a coupon at their stores.
I use 'X' refills without the machine. My LSS owner showed me how - she said that there is less waste. Have only been using Xyron tape for a little over a year and love how it makes the little layer pieces of a Cricut image so easy to attach.
I have the X, 510 and 900. I really like that with my 510 and 900 I can make other things too, like magnets, and laminate, and get laminate on the front and adhesive on the back. I always keep all the carts for the 900 on hand. I use the machine a lot, and get my carts 40% off when they go on sale.
If you are trying to decide which size to buy just think of what size cutout you normally have, then get the size that would allow you to put that cutout through without wasting too much adhesive.
I do a lot of assembly line type production and make a lot of one thing, so I run my stuff through all at the same time, which wastes less adhesive.
I use the 900 a LOT but use the 510 and X quite a bit too. I rub around all the edges with a stylus and in the little holes, and if there is still any extra adhesive I give it a rub with the adhesive eraser and it comes right off.
I actually have 3 - the BIG BIG one for a full piece of cardstock, the 5" one and the little X. Out of all of them the little one gets used the most. I love it for small letters there is nothing better (because when I try to use glue on small letters/words the glue always dries in spots before I can finish putting glue on the entire thing)
This is one of my favorite tools. I have the 5" one. I do seem to go through the cartridges fairly fast though. I think there is about 18 ft. in each one but it goes fast.
I really love my Xyron X. I make lots of cupcake picks and favor boxes with small punch-outs of crowns, crosses, and other odd-size shapes that I stick to scallop circles. The X is perfect for these! I try to punch out many pieces of the shape I want, and run them all through one after the other, closely spaced, so as to not waste the adhesive. For narrow ribbon, I'll send multiple lengths through, next to each other.
