Default xyron issues

I think I posted this previously - some time ago, but don't recall the replies. Going thru my stash, I ran across my Xyrons and would like to try using them again: I have the Xyron 150 sticker maker and the Xyron 2.5" create-a-sticker. My problem has always been the excessive glue around the edges on any item I have run through either machine. I see you tube videos where the crafters just "'rub off" the sticky around the design, but mine never comes off and usually tears the die cut especially on intricate words. A friend suggested I have a bad roll of adhesive, but I have the same problem on both machines - and I have replaced the adhesive on the smaller one and have the same issue. I have been hesitant to buy the larger roll thinking I'd be wasting my money. Any suggestions as to what I am doing incorrectly? Thanks to all !

I use the tip of my bone folder and burnish all edges of the die before removing the top clear layer. For intricate dies you might need something with a finer tip.

What bawsketdiva said

A stylus (the smaller end) is a good option for intricate dies. If you don't have one, try a toothpick.

I run the cardstock through the Xyron and then die cut it.

I can't seem to remember to add sticky to intricate dies before I cut it so Xyron has been a life saver. After running through the Xyron, I place it face down on a foam mat (like a stamping mat) and burnish like crazy with the flat edge of above folder. Any remaining sticky I remove with an adhesive eraser.

wow - thank you all for the suggestions. Now that I read it (again), I think the 'solution' was to run the cardstock thru the Xyron first, and then cut.

can't wait to try it...

Thank you all !

Mac, I don't know of any other way to do it. The term 'sticker maker' is misleading, I think. Xyron's directions for the tiny model say to 'insert item, pull through, tear & peel sticker.' WHAT??
I have the 2.5 and 5", now, but really hesitated to buy one because I couldn't understand why I should have to cut out the item first if it's a sticker-maker!
I ALWAYS run the cardstock through the Xyron first, then die cut the item. If I'm doing a lot of the same card I run through a half sheet of cardstock, then I have enough ready to go. I save any unused pieces of all the colors I have. There is less waste of the cartridge with the 5" machine.

I also run vellum through before die cutting.

I agree with the above comments - use the Xyron to make sticky paper THEN die cut. I gave away the small X-shaped Xyron because it didn't seem to work as advertised. But the next size up is one of my favorite tools now. I have been adding a lot of die-cut words to my cards, and it is a game-changer.

Hi Mac,
I had so much trouble with the small Xyron adhesive runners, I ended up giving both of them away. However, Xyron makes an excellent adhesive eraser that I use for any adhesive that lands where it isn't supposed to be, you might give that a shot.

I have three different xyron’s in my put on eBay or Mercari stash right now because I couldn’t get the hang of them.

I just quickly draw around the edge of the design with a pen or pencil tip before removing the top layer of film and I don't have any problems with it after that. I love using the small X-shaped Xyron for little tiny things. If I have two designs with smaller ends, I just put those small ends in next to each other so they don't overlap and run it through to waste less.

Default Won't give up my xyrons!

While I have 2 sizes, I use the small X-shaped xyron the most for making small stickers from a variety of border punches. Tricks I use are (1) burnish like crazy, using a piece of an old t-shirt; (2) use the sticky eraser; and (3) if any leftover stickiness at this point, use the EK Success powder brush (purchased many years ago, it holds a small amount of baby powder & has a brush tip you move over the sticky area. Sticky spot picks up the powder, which becomes invisible--and no more issue!) If this is no longer available, I think a small watercolor brush dipped in baby powder would be a good substitute.
