I understand your concern on the size. I just weighed mine and it is 14.1 ounces with tape loaded in it. Additionally, I used a friend's Scotch ATG and it seemed bigger. I am not sure if it just the weight or the shape or the actual housing that was bigger, but I do seem to handle this one with ease.

Hope that helps! I don't think you will regret the purchase! Mine has only been here for a little over a week and I LOVE it!

I have had my ATG for a few days now and I absoutely love it. It is so easy to use once I figured out the little things about it. My future DIL was over helping me with some page layouts that I am going to sell at a crop and she did not want to use it but I made her she said she liked it but she went back to using glue sticks. Not sure if she did not want to use up my tape or what. At least I have it for my 9 layer christmas card. So far I am not regretting it.

For those of you who have already bought the tape gun, what brand is the tape gun from Tape Depot? I know it says ATG... but what is on the gun itself? Is it scotch brand or is there some other name I can search it by. TIA I am tossing between a 714 and this 50 and can't seem to make up my mind.

The gun is generic. I don't see anything on it indicating any brand name at all. You can find it on the Tape Depot site by searching for ATG-50 Tape Dispenser.

They have pics on the website, but if you want to look here, I posted about it on my blog, complete with pictures.

JMHO, why spend twice as much for something that says "Scotch"? ;) I am just a frugal person and could not justify $50 for a tape gun! LOL

I got my ATG50 and rolls of tape today! I love the gun, the tape rolls are HUGE! I had no trouble loading the tape. My only problem was I didn't press the trigger when applying the tape to paper the first time. Once I figured out when to press the trigger and when let go it works like a dream. I was concerned about the weight of the gun because I have carpal syndrome, but it handles very well.
Thanks to all you SCS friends for all the info on this gun and tape. I am thrilled with my purchase!

I did the same thing when I first got my gun, I was having problems because I was not pressing the trigger firm enough. But now I love it!

I emailed Find Tape to see if the tape was possibly acid free since Tape Depot claims it is and this is the response I received:

"JVCC ATG-7502 is definitely not an acid-free tape. The only acid-free ATG
tape we carry in a 1/4" width is 3M 908 (in 1/2" or 3/4" width we also have
Scapa T002). Do you remember the site you saw that said it was acid-free? We can try and contact them to make sure they update their site. Thank you."

Just posting so others know the response I received. I can't bring myself to use it just because it's cheaper. I'm not sold that it is acid free. I hope it is acid free for those scrapbookers out there using it who might care.

I'm concerned too, since the only responses from Tape Depot have been by phone and email -- no actual documentation on the site, and no mentions of the words "acid-free" or "acid neutral" in the official descriptions of the tape. Usually these days that's a huge huge selling point, so it probably WOULD be listed if it was acid free. So I'm pretty much assuming it's NOT acid-free....

Are there any other ways to tell?

I am not concerned about acid free and I love the tape. It works great and the price is right..I rarely scrap anymore...only make the cards.
Blessings...

I am kind of in the same boat. I do (try!) to scrapbook regularly, but I still only use CM tape for my books. I know...I am just weird like that! I will always use only CM tape because I totally trust it is safe...and for all that work I want to be sure they are safe! But it is expensive...and I accept that!

With that said, I don't care if the tape I use on my cards is acid free or not. But I totally understand how important it is for those who use the gun in their books!

I do hope those that need to know find the correct answer soon! Very frustrating!

I'm the one who tested it with a PH pen and posted about it -- my results were that it's acid-free but I'm NOT a scientist by any means!!! I tested other name brand acid-free adhesive that I have and had the exact same results so my conclusion was that it's acid-free. I could definitely be wrong though -- although then I'd wonder about the "acid-free" adhesive I've been purchasing for years. I also just rechecked the ebay auction listing that I purchased my tape from and it DOES say acid-free in bold lettering. Who knows?!?!

Yes, it comes with a diagram. I figured it out easily so I don't think you will have any trouble!

I'm not doubting what you found and hope I didn't offend you. I just wanted to post the response I got from the other company.

If I was only using it for cards, I wouldn't worry either.

I have the yellow 700 atg. Do I have to change to 1/4 inch with the adapter to use the reduced price tape ya'll are talking about? Or can I order 1/2 inch tape. What tape do I order to keep the 1/2 inch?

Oh no, not offended at all!!!
It IS confusing to get differing info from them about the tape. Me personally, I'm not worried about it either way and I AM using it on my scrapbook pages.

So I finally got my ebay-won ph tester pen today so I could test my tapedepot tape. I used the "Light Impressions" pen (I read a review/test of this pen & it rated high) on several layers of the tape & it tested acid-free (blue). I also tested the pen on some paper from Russia that I knew had to have acid in it & it turned yellow immediately (meaning acidic) so I know the pen works.

It makes no sense that they wouldn't advertise it as acid-free on the website but there you have it.

I got the tape. I went to put it on my ATG714...I can't figure it out for the life of me. I have such a headache! I wound it the same as the 3m tape, but the tape is all loose, won't tighten up on the spool. Does anyone have instructions for this tape? There aren't any on the tape depot site. Or...does this not fit on the 714???

I have used my tape on the 714 without any problems...are you sure you bought the right one?

Thanks for this info!! So, that is now 3 of you who have tested it and it comes up acid free.

I think that other website that says it is not acid free is either wrong or is selling a different version of the tape.

Thanks so much again for posting!!

I just got done with my first role of the generic tape with the scotch brand ATG..it's just as good as the scotch brand but 1/2 the price.

They do sell the tape in different widths including 1/4" and 1/2".

The thing to do instead of testing other acid-free adhesives would be to test the tapes known not to be acid-free and see what your results are. That way you would know for sure that your pen can test adhesive and have the correct results.

I know another poster said she tested her acid-free adhesive and then tested Russian paper. But paper and adhesive are totally different so you can't compare the two results and say that your pen is working on the adhesive.

The owner of Tape Depot posted on the forums somewhere that the tape is acid-free. I think the SCS user name is The Tape Depot. If you search the forums i am sure you can find it and that will put your mind at ease. HTH

The ATG-50 appears smaller than its brethen. Is that true? My issue with the ATG guns is the size of them. Seems hard to use for smaller pieces. Anyone else have that issue? Anyone who has the ATG care to render an opinion? Input welcome. Adhesive is my one bane of card making. I hate spending money on it and I cannot find something that works. I have the little Glue Glide. Mine fouled on the first roll. I have a friend who is using it and loves it. I just love the size though.

I weighed mine and it is 14.1 ounces with the tape in it. I took a pic on my blog with it next to my Cricut Expressions, so you can perhaps see the size as a comparison by viewing that picture??

I don't find it as "clumsy" as the Scotch brand, but I don't know why.

I tried the tape depot tape for my ATG 714 and found it not as sticky as the scotch brand. My cards usually have several layers and lots of embellishments and the scotch holds much better. I guess I'll just use the generic tape for my simple cards.

I make about 100-200 cards per month so I have lots of experience with adheshive. I've used the tape depot brand for about 2months now and am seeing some cards coming apart. I guess I'll stick to the name brand for now.

I agree - same thing is happening to me. I've had many projects (50-60 keepsake boxes, etc) fall apart already. That never happened with the Scotch adhesive. I'll get through Christmas cards with the Tape Depot brand, but it's back to Scotch 3M for me.

How very odd. They ran out of the regular stuff that they sell so they sent a different type and all I can say is WOW! This stuff is SUPER sticky. As in it tears the CS if it so much as touches it and you try to move it. And it's way thicker than the Scotch gold that I had been using.

I wonder what they sent me???

Wow...How funny is that? If I even try to move something I have laid down, it will tear the cardstock. I am almost done with my second roll in as many months, too. I do about 50 cards a month and some scrapbooking (although not as much I should be doing! LOL)

I wonder if they had a bad batch of tape? You should try contacting them to inquire!

babydal57...let us know what kind of replacement tape they sent you!
