I can't see mailing them since you can see right thru them. The only reason I would maybe use them for is for scrapbooking . To use on a page to tuck some memorbelia in. Other wise why do people use them.
does anyone have a list of ways to use clear envelopes.

I think that some people use clear envelopes to put their cards in when they sell them (at stores or craft shows). I've never sold any or seen any at the craft shows I've been at though.
I am a demo and I use them for my display cards, so that as people thumb through my display box, they aren't leaving behind the oils off of their hands, and to keep the intricut pieces that some may have on them, from falling off. It looks very nice.
I have sent cards through the mail in them, not often, but they did cost me extra postage because they have to be hand sorted.
This time of year I put card in clear envelope then inside a regular envelope. With rain and snow the cardstock can get wet thru a regular envelope if not protected, then your dye inks run, and it's a mess.
My demo suggested that you use the when you are taking a gift to a party or shower. That way the card can be shown off a little on the package. This way it become part of the wrapping/decoration.
I mail most of mine in clear envelopes. They are cheaper and they allow the card to be seen by lots of people. As far as postage goes, if I mail it from my home, I NEVER pay extra postage (and the receiver hasn't either..I checked). If I ask at the post office, they make me pay more. Guess from where I mail them

Clear Envelopes
I use them to put my cards in that I sell. I put the card face up with the decorated envelope facing out the back. I also put my business stickers on the back. Some of my friends save them for me and return them to be used again. So sometimes I get them back to recycle - but they are worth the $$ and make your finished cards look very professional!

I use them exclusively to protect the cards in my stash box - that's my box of completed cards that are ready to be used. It keeps the cards in pristine condition and I can tell at a glance if it's the card I'm looking for. Currently I have 3 boxes of cards that are made and ready to go, so that's a lot of clear envy's in use!
A really nice thing about the clear envy's is that you can put a completed card in it and also "parts and pieces" for additional cards.
A note about using clear envelopes to store cards-in-waiting - don't strip off the sticky strip and seal....I have damaged cards when the sticky edge catches on a card front as it is being removed from the envy. The clear envelopes will hold the contents just fine without being sealed - fold over the flap if you choose or leave it open - the contents will remain inside just fine! :-D
I mail them all the time when I have something bulky. I have received many a card that had the envies tore open or the rhinestone missing because it was torn apart. I do put the extra postage on due to cards not arriving. I also use them when giving a gift so you can see the pretty card on the package.
I would never send a gift card as you can just peel the envies open and restick, they are not secure.
Just curious but for those of you who mail cards out to people in clear envelopes. My only worry would be that it might not make it to the person . In fear that some sees a cute or pretty card. and Not everyone thinks like me so please don't take this offensive. But I would think that some people see a card and think ooohhh. a gift card or money even a check could be inside and sneak it into their pocket.
I know everyone isn't a crook out there and there area lot of nice people. But It would be a concern for me mailing in a clear envelope. Not sure if it ever crossed peoples minds when mailing in a clear envelope.

I usually make my own out of some vellum that was given to me. I sometimes place a card with matching evelope (all designed and made by me) into a vellum envelope for mailing purposes....as they help to protect the matcing envelope that I spent so much time designing.

Postal workers have to go through a lot of training and are government employees. I have a friend that just went through this process and I couldn't believe how difficult they make it to become a mail person. I wouldn't think they would want to risk losing their job over a gift card or money in a card. They have our mail in their hands all the time and I guess even though their could be a problem - I don't think it would happen very often. Unless the postal worker didn't want to keep their job! To me it is pretty obvious when something is a card anyway when it is mailed.

I use the clear envelopes for many things. I mail lots of cards in them. It always makes me smile when my mail lady takes them out looks each one over carefully, gets in her truck takes them out and studies them further. I also use them to package 4 of the peppermint patties decorated with the scalloped punch and a ribbon for gifts but most of all I use thousands and thousands to send the cards to the soldiers in. I package each card with a white or ivory envelope inside the clear envelope to keep them nice for our troops.
Blessings.
I use them to send out invites for my stamping classes. I put the invite inside a piece of CS that has been stamped and decorated. That way when the guest receives it in the mail it is pretty and inviting for them to open. Plus, I get to showcase my work to new customers and hope that it will interest them in coming to my class.
