I've ordered one of these mats, not a Waffle Flower mat, but some generic one similar to it and wondered what should not be used on it. I read that a gel plate should not be used as its chemicals interact with the mat and warp it. I also read that some cleaning agents should not be applied - but which type cleaning agents? What would alcohol inks do to the surface? What about alcohol used as a cleaning agent?

Reason: omission
I have one from Waffle Flower. I have used alcohol on it to clean it. I often take it to the sink and wash with dish soap. My bright pink ink stained it and the alcohol helped remove a little of it.
I have never used alcohol inks of any kind on mine. I just dabbed it a bit with rubbing alcohol on a piece of cotton over the stain. It didn't damage it in any way, but did lessen the stain.
Stazon does sound risky. Today I received the mat, and, of course, there are no rules provided as to what medium is a no-no. I guess I will try a sample on the reverse when an issue comes up.
I used Copics today with it, but it was strictly on the paper. I did like how well the cardstock clung to the mat. Now, if only it would keep my markers from running over the lines.
I use my white media mat as much as I need to with a variety of “media” . I am not concerned how stained it gets as long as it doesn’t transfer anything to my next project. My philosophy is to use my media mat unabashedly without worrying about what ink or medium could stain it. Having said that I do clean my stamps well each time I use them. I see that as a different matter.

I wanted to get the Tim Holtz one because he cut it up to be used in his stamping platform, which is what I want to do. Unfortunately, you can't buy them so is there another company that makes that same thing? Scrapbook.com? They have one but don't know if it's the same material or that flimsy rolled up mat sold back 15 years ago.
I don't think there is anything magically special about the Tim Holtz mat (other than availability delayed). Try one of the silicone mats from Amazon. Silicone Mats Some are pretty reasonable, and you can cut them up to your heart's content.
