I wanted to know if the 110 lb cardstock at Staples would be good to use to make cards for OWH? I live in the country and there aren't any places here to buy cardstock. The nearest Staples is 50 min away, same with Michael's. I am going to the city on Sat. Hubby has to drive me(and he is already groaning) and I would like to get some cardstock. Oh and are the A2 envies from Staples ok?
Thanks!!!
The envelopes at Staples that you want are labelled "invitation envelopes". I've been buying them there for years, and the OWH shippers have never told me that they weren't good enough. About a week ago, the boxes of 100 white envelopes were on sale for $5.00 (regular price is $9.99), and I think the sale was supposed to run through Dec. 22.
I haven't tried the cardstock from Staples, so I don't feel comfortable answering that part of your question.
However, I will say that my current favorite white cardstock is the Pure Luxury from Gina K. Designs. It's a wonderful smooth finish bright white. It's available in both 110 lb. weight, which is perfect for card bases, and 80 lb. which is terrific for layering. However, for OWH cards that aren't supposed to have heavy, bulky embellishments, I think the 80 lb. Pure Luxury would work well for the card base, too.
I like the Ivory color by Staples, but detest the white. If you hold the white up to a lamp, you can see that the fibers are not consistent; it looks almost bare in certain areas. Plus it has a grayish cast. If you have a Sam's nearby, I would recommend the Georgia Pacific 110 lb; 250 sheets for $7.84. Walmart carries the Georgia Pacific in packages of 125 or 150 sheets for a little over $5.00; however, I seem to be able to tell a difference between the GP sold at Sam's and the GP sold at Walmart. I like Sam's paper better.
I do like Staples envelopes, but only if they're on sale. Two years ago, before school started, they had the envelopes for $1 per box (limit of 2). Several of my co-workers were kind enough to purchase some for me, so I still have a few boxes left.
We're almost neighbors - I'm at the foot of a mountain in NW North Carolina!
Hope you get some goodies on your trip. And I am planning on starting some cards from OWH after the first of the year - have already received their stamp that I can use on the back of my cards. A very worthy cause, and I'm even more prejudiced because my son is currently serving in the Air Force.

Linda, you're right. It's the Georgia Pacific white that I like and the ivory Staples brand. I've never tried the Staples brand white. Sorry for the confusion.
I like the Staples white #110 card stock. It's the Georgia Pacific that I couldn't wait to use up. To my eyes, it really had a gray tinge-looked dingy. I also like Neenah Smooth Solar white. I use it when I color with my Copics but am finding that I like the weight.
I love Staples cardstock for bases, it's pretty sturdy. I did buy a pack of GP from Walmart and hate it so I use it to absorb bleed through when coloring on certain other cardstock and as a swatch for other stuff like cleaning off globs of glue and stuff that will need to hit the trash. My GP is also the only pack my 11 year old is allowed to use to draw on.
Bottom line: between Staples and GP for bases, go with Staples.
PS Glad to know about Staples envelopes. I'll be picking some up soon
I haven't used Staples cardstock. I like an 80 Lb. paper. My favorite is Neenah Classic Crest Solar White super smooth. I get it from The Paper Mill Store (on line) - it's usually around $32 for 250 sheets (plus shipping). Specialty Paper, Cardstock & Envelopes | The Paper Mill Store
Yes, it's Operation Write HOme. If you make cards regularily, get the Heinrich envelopes on the the owh site- you get 1000 for about 31 bucks with all shipping. I split it into quarters and sold half off to other card makers-250 envelopes is doable for many card maker. Heinrich is really nice to work with as well- they didn't understand a special request I made so they called my house to make sure they got it right. Blew me away!

Staples cardstock is more of an 80# than 110#. I know Neenah is a popular choice for coloring with alcohol markers, but for me as a base, the Staples CS is perfect for the price. It's also okay for color swatching markers as you work even though I have charts (not really accurate after it fades or blend testing). I would hate to spend too much for this purpose. I know not all CS is created equal, GP is horrible for swatching if you're using a smooth CS.
Does the Neenah paper go through printers for digi stamps? I have the GinaK 120lb CS, but my printer is rather old and I'm afraid to try it.
When I use digital stamps, I print the image first on regular copy paper. Then I cut the cardstock to size, attach it over the copy paper image with removable adhesive, and run that through the printer. I don't like putting an entire sheet of cardstock through the printer.
Both Neenah and Gina K. 80 lb. work very well in that manner. I can't remember ever trying it with Gina K. 120 lb.
Of all the different cardstocks I've used in this way for digital images, PTI has given me the most trouble with getting stuck in the printer. It's good, thick, heavy duty stuff, but I much prefer Neenah and Gina K cardstock because both are a brighter white than PTI and Copics blend easier for me on them than on PTI.
