DOstamping with Dawn, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator: Sneak Peeks
I guess I don't understand why they are available for pre-order by Demos but won't be available when cattie goes live. This seems to happen every year with a hot new product. Last year I think it was the magnetic platform. So now the back orders and waiting begins. Seems like there is a problem in planning at SU. Don't get me wrong, love SU products and use almost exclusively but get annoyed that things in cattie are not available at launch. |
We were just discussing this on another list. It isn't really a problem in planning. It is a difference in business models. Most companies don't work around a catalog launch and so when a product is ready to be launched it is simply announced and available online or in the store. SU and other direct sales companies have to work around a yearly launch date for a catalog that has to be photographed and printed months before it goes live. Putting a high profile product in the catalog in June is much better for demos than releasing it a couple of months later and then having to direct customers to separate fliers and the online catalog for the rest of the year. This is actually something that demonstrators lobbied for SU to do. There was a last minute need to adjust the expected rollout date, to insure quality and enough product to avoid immediate backorders. If it were an online or local store, all the waiting would be done behind the scenes.
And to the comparisons with copics. Copics are tools that were created with professional artists in mind and I don't think SU or their demos expect people who have invested in copics to just up and switch to blendabilities. They are simply another option for those who see the benefits of alcohol inks and would like to use them in their hobby/crafting without the higher price tag and higher learning curve. Those people who haven't already jumped on to the copics bandwagon. If they sell really well, it wouldn't surprise me for SU to change the product line later to sell some individually or include refills. And of course it gives SU fans and demos new coloring tools to use with the rest of the SU color coordinated line.
