Default When is it time to sale unused supplies

I have been going through my scraproom and I have decided there are some things that I really need to sell. I have tools and supplies I have never used or may have only used once or twice. For example, I have spellbinders dies that are still in the package and quickutz dies I have never used :o But, for some reason I think I will use these someday. What is a good "rule of thumb" for deciding when you sell something?

Thanks for your input!

Never! Everytime I dump something I need it the next day! Seriously, feels that way. I decided if I don't use it, get rid of it IF I can afford to replace it if I had to...

If you are unsure; I say go with this approach. Pack up things you believe you can sell into a box or boxes if necessary. Label the boxes as "supplies for sale" or something, and the date clearly visible on the outside, then put these boxes AWAY. Someplace else. As far from your crafting space as possible.

If after a year you haven't gone running to the box to dig out something you "need" then I say sell away! A yard sale if you don't care how much you get for the stuff. Or Ebay if you think some stuff might bring a good price, or you could donate it all to a local school, senior center etc.

I did the same thing earlier this spring. I cleaned out a ton of stuff and pretty much just gave it away. Now I so wish that I had not done that. I now need most of what I gave away for new techniques and styles that are always changing. I say pack them up and keep em. You never know when someone creative will come up with some great idea that requires the supplies you might have. Good luck with this, I know it is hard!

I think it depends on why the things were not used.
Did you find a better product? Did you change your style and the things no longer fit your current style?

I had Fiskars shape templates and shape cutter. I now have a Cuttlebug and Nesties so I don't hand cut the shapes. I sold the Fiskars templates at a garage sale.
I decided I don't like most clear poly stamps so I sold those.
If you just have a lot of stuff and need to free up some space, pack them away for at least a year before you sell them As other have said the minute you sell them you will need them

It is really hard to use a lot of the general rules of thumb to your crafting supplies. If you have not used them then how can you make the call on them. As a previous poster said you have to try some of the product you have, you might love it. If it is hopelessly out of date, was never to your taste, came free and you thought well maybe I will use it someday then it is for the "for Sale pile. But if you bought it because you loved it and you still do, keep it. I would say put it out and make a point to use it now. Look at the Gallery here and see what others have done with the item or Stamp Set. That usually gets me to fall in love or know it is time to go

Good Luck

Sharon.

I use to be an organized person, and what I would do with things that I thought I didn't want anymore, but was unsure was to put the stuff in a box and put the date on the box. If I didn't open the box within 6 months, it all went to good will. I agree tho that you have to at least first try the tools/products before you decide you don't want it.

Robin. I just looked at your blog and I can see why you may not have used your Nesties or Quickutz dies. It appears you mainly do scrapbooking. Many of the Spellbinder, Quickutz and other dies are designed mainly for card makers . Spellbinders tags may work well with scrapbook layouts for banners

The new Spellbinder Grand ( large) dies may be more useful for scrapbook layouts. Or perhaps a Circut which has many cartridges available with various images. I don't have a Circut, but it is my understanding you can change the size of the images.

Perhaps it may be wise to sell what you don't use and use the money to buy things that would be more useful for scrapbooking .
I love my dies and Cuttlebug, but I only make cards.

I think I must qualify as a hoarder, because the onlt things I have ever given away is when i do a boneheaded thing like buy duplicates of a stamp. The ideas the other gals have given you sound good though.
