My absolute most favorite is SU's 1/4 inch grosgrain, but I've been pulling out the 5/8 inch grosgrain a lot more since SU retired my favorite color (chocolate chip) last year. I've noticed that I'm becoming more and more addicted to ribbon. It didn't used to be that way!
Not a big ribbon user but some cards just need that little extra touch. I like 1/4" for most cards and I use WIDE ribbon for borders sometimes on scrapbook pages.

For me it depends on what I'm "doing" with it. If I'm covering a seam where two different cardstocks join together, I usually go a bit wider than 1/4", just to be sure.
I like 5/8 in sheer especially when passing it through a buckle. And as we can see through I do not mind the large width as we can see things through anyway
With the grossgrain I like 3/8 better. Same size for velvet and satin.
When we were visting CA in May this year, I found a really wonderful stamp store in the San Diego area. This was the first time I had seen skinny grosgrain ribbon - it's either 1/8 or 1/16! I'm not at home right now to measure ;-).
Anyway, I bought a couple of yards in every color they had (only 4 colors if I remember correctly). I love adding tiny bows to "feminize" cards. And this skinny ribbon sure does the trick!
Anyone else seen these widths or know online where it can be purchased? I'd like to buy some other colors.
I'm also interested in ribbon tutorials. I struggle with getting my ribbon adornments to look right more than any other add-on.

This is a bit off-topic, but it seemed like a good place to post. I've been card making for almost four hears and have finally gotten around to using eyelets. Once I started researching them I was really surprised. I thought the primary purpose of eyelets was to thread ribbon through. But I see they usually come in only 2 sizes 1/8 and 3/16. So what if I want to thread some of my beautiful wider ribbon through an eyelet?
I like to use wider ribbon, maybe 5/8". A few years ago, I went to a convention and bought a lot of skinny ribbon ( 1/4") that I really liked. It was s sheer organdy and the colors were great, but did I use it? I did not. Couldn't figure out what to do with it, so it just.... sat.
Fast forward to this spring. My daughter had a job interview and I wanted to make some simple, classy thank yous for her to send to the people that talked to her. I bought inexpensive notecards at the Dollar store. Threw the cards into my white paper stash to use for punches or other small bits, then made simple notecards in her school colors. I used the large oval punch and a thank you from one of my many PTI sets. I used an 1/8" punch on either end of the oval and threaded the ribbon through that. I was so prooud of my self for using that ribbon that had been sitting in the dark for sooooo long.

P.S. She got the job! Hope you never have to see her - she's working in an ER!
I love ribbon, too! It adds so much to my scrapbooking and cardmaking. I'm really a beginner at paper crafts but I sure enjoy it and have quickly become addicted to ribbon. It is such an economical embellishment! I can pick up several different yards at Ben Franklin, Too at maybe .69 cents a yard! Now I need to perfect my knot and bow tying. As another person asked, any good tutorials on this?
PS: Jutta: clever idea for using up something that was just sitting around getting dusty!

I like 1/4" grosgrain, but I only buy white and color it with my SU markers to match or contrast with the card I am making. My only warning with this is to make sure it is completely dry before using it on the card. I totally ruined some cards last week using ribbon I "thought" was dry and it wasn't. This also works with white organdy which I buy in 3/8" width. It is gorgeous colored with the SU markers!

I use 3/8" or 5/8" almost all the time... though for some reason I've been eyeing that 7/8" lately. LOVE that big satin bow look!

like that girl swimming in ribbons for Oil of Olay (?)
I have loved ribbon since I was a little girl. I remember sending in 3 wrappers from Wright's brand trims with 15 cents (!) and receiving two big envelopes of ribbon scraps. I was in heaven. I used the really wide ribbon to make mini skirts for my Barbie's!
I LOVE all ribbon--even ugly ribon--just add a charm and it becomes a swan!
My favorite width depends on the thickness. I don't care for bulky bows. Love the 1/4" grosgrain from SU! but their Ribbon Originals have so many nifty widths and thicknesses. Love the roushed (sp?) "gathered" ribbon. American Craft makes a nice width in their single rolls and 6 pack boxes, too. Not sure of the width of that one--probably something like 13/16ths!
The width of the gingham ribbons is nice for bows. I really like the soft, cotton-like variety. It doesn't slip like the polyesters. The double sided satin ribbon from SU! is really pretty but I could never get it to work on my projects. So...I guess I am partial to narrower widths! Stamp On!

I have been getting all the Papertrey swiss dots ribbons and I love them. I was not fond of using 5/8" ribbons in the past but I just love these ribbons...yummy.
