I'll put in my vote for the CM cutting system! I've had others that just got thrown away. As a matter of fact, I'm convinced that the Fiskars circle cutting system contributed to my current carpal tunnel!!!

The Tonic system has circles, rectangels, ovals, squares and then a two pack of wavy lines that are long enough to do 12x12 pages

For small circles - SU! punches. Larger circles I use a Colluzle and/or Nestabilities. I love both, just make sure you have the special mat for the colluzle or it won't work.

Another huge fan of the CM Cutting System. I am biased as I'm a CMC, however I will admit that I learned the hard way. I have been scrapping and card making for 5 years. I have only been a CMC for the past year. I started with the Fiskars system and what a waste of $$. I was sooo glad to buy the CM cutting system! They work so simply and yes, you can make 6 sizes with each pattern. The new blades and ergonomic and swivel, so very easy to use.

I too vote for Creative Memories. I tried the Colluzle and it was a disaster. The CM system is also safer for kids to use as the blades are covered by a big "button" so if they slip they are harder to cut your self with.

I have a really old CM system that still works, but I don't have the placement sheet anymore (don't loan those out!) and always had trouble pulling it out from under the track. So, even tho I really like the cuts it gives (no flat spots) I waste a lot of paper using it (and I'm too cheap to buy a replacement sheet).
On the other hand, I found a Curvy Cutter on clearance at Target recently & got it. It's got the same basic track design as the CM one but the placement guide fits in the center (no more sliding it out from under the track!) and makes it way easier to use, plus it makes bigger circles. The cutting tool rotates around the handle (my CM doesn't, but it is like 8-10 years old) which means that you don't have to change your grip mid-cut, and it's actually easier to hold on to. Downsides are that you HAVE to use a glass matt (trust me, it makes a big difference) and that the circles don't seem to be as perfect. I almost always end up with a flat spot (only noticeable to a perfectionist) and a little spot that needs trimming from where the edges meet. Also, beacause of the feet on the track, smaller paper slips around very easily - remedied with some double sticky tape.
All in all, I really do prefer the Curvy Cutter. It's a great tool if you have the room!

Default What do you use to cut Circles?

There was so mention of using your Cuttlebug to cut circles...Does Cuttlebug have dies for circles?

I have a Cuttlebug...but I think I have missed out on something.

TIA

My vote is for the CM cutting system. It works great with several sizes, circles, ovals and other shapes. Kathy

I have seen some CB dies that are circles... ummm, in a pack of four I think. Ranging from about the size of a quarter up to maybe a half dollar? Can't really remember now, but they were pretty small.
Otherwise I think people are talking about Nesties....

I have a Creative Memories system from about 2000--circles, ovals, variety shapes, etc. I use them for all my cards as well as scrapbooking. I have a variety of Marvy and SU punches, too. Different ones for different cards, projects, etc. I have too much stuff....

Red face circle cutters

Yet another vote for CM. Tried Fiskars circle cutter and never did get the hang of it---CM is so easy to cut lots of shapes and sizes--definitely one of the best investments I have made and use. For smaller circles, I use punches.

Whatever you decide, DO NOT buy the Friskars circle cutter. I paid $15.00 for it at Michaels, and it stinks! I still can't figure out how it works. I would love to return it and get my money back, but I don't know how. I have never tried the creative memories system, but it sounds good. I do own the coluzzle system and I love it. Its so easy to use. I love that the template is clear so you can stamp an image and know where to cut around it. I also love the price and the fact that you can buy many other shaped templates to go with it.

I bought the Fiskars circle cutter too-awful! I now use the EK Sucess circle scissors-the pink one. Their old purple one was awful too. I like the way you just dial in to get the size you want.

I have the circle and square coluzzle and I must say I have a bear of a time getting the blade down into the slot! Works fine when I get it in there, but its too frustrating trying to maneuver it in. I have ordered all the Curvy Cutter parts and am hoping it will be a little easier for me. Cardmaking isn't as fun if you are getting frustrated with it!

I love CM too, I do use coluzzle but I do get the flat spots some times, and SU punches are the best.

I have never used my cricut but then again I rarely use it for anything!

Default Cutting Circles

I just use circle punches whenever possible. If I don't have the right size, I borrow one from friends and vice versa. Dianne

Very best value in my opinon is either the Coluzzle cutting system if you just want to cut paper or the nestabilities dies or similar dies if you want to cut more than just paper. I have both and they work well. I use the nestabilities with my cuttlebug. They do cut medium weight chipboard but leave the embossed impression on the edges because they really weren't meant to cut chipboard that thick. So light weight chipboard and other stuff. It is debateable which is quicker. As for cheaper, Coluzzle all the way. Depends on what you need/want to cut!

I have a Fiskars circle cutter, which is okay, but gets stuck sometimes. I've tried the coluzzle and didn't like it at all. It also gets stuck and does not give a smooth circle cut. I had a Creative Memories cutting system with the oval shapes and a glass cutting mat, which give a very smooth, easy result. I like it so much that when a needed circles bigger than my punches (which are my favorite), I ordered the set of CM circles and are VERY happy with them.

I love my CM cutting system. I have the circles, ovals, and gemstones.

I tried the Coluzzle, but I have a hard time with the knife slipping and cutting the template. Also, every time I did a circle, I would end up having to finish it with scissors, as it would not cut out all the way

No, Creative Memories is sorta like SU! for scrapbookers. They have in-home parties, make pages and other things, demo products, etc. They have their own line of product, only available through them (and ebay, I imagine! )

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this product yet, but found it doing some google research...It looks very similiar to the Creative Memories product (my sister has those, but I have resisted purchasing because of price, and not being a CM fan) Has anyone used this purple cow product? How does it compare to CM? It seems to be limited in shapes/sizes but maybe in the future they'll add more

What about Ovals?

You need to multiply.... there are three blades, so each template gives you three outer and three inner cuts, multiplied by however many templates you have, so if there are six templates in the set, that means you can get 36 different size circles per set.

My vote is for Creative Memories!
I just sold my coluzzle system. Never could get the hang of that.
I love all the different shapes you can make with the CM, and all the different sizes of those shapes. It's the only way to go for me.
Someone mentioned she ruined too many photos with her CM so she doesn't use it...........you have to make sure that the little feet on the blade are in the track, or you will ruin your photo. After you get use to that, it's a piece of cake.

CM has my vote too. I believe I have all of the shapes, along with the free ones that you can earn. I also have the Craft Robo, but haven't had enough time to play with it to figure out how to do it on there.

I've had mine for 6 years and only replace blades every year at a few bucks.

So worth the money. If they are out of your budget try ebay.
I so hear you! I have never gotten a good oval or circle using the Coluzzle, but when I use my Creative Memories circles and ovals, I usually get a great result. I do want to get some of those cute Nestabilities sometime, though, but probably scalloped ones, not just plain circles or ovals.

I use my CM cutting system, love that! Also punches and I've just ordered a set of Nestabilities dies. I've also been known to trace around something circular in a size I like and cut it out by hand!

smiles,

I've been looking at the Coluzzle but I just wanted to be clear: does one template cut several different sizes of circles? That's what it looks like to me. Also, what size of circles does it cut?

Any info (or links to info) is appreciated.

Thanks,
