Hello... I've been watching some videos about changing out SU wood mounted stamps to Vinyl Static cling mounted stamps for Acrylic Blocks... Now my question is how many of you have done this? or Do you think it's best to leave the wood mounted stamps alone? I know changing them would be a space saver for sure... But then I thought... What about if I wanted to resale my SU stamps? Will they sell well with the wood mounts on them or do you think people would still buy them if they were vinyl cling backings? Just wondering what you guys think so I can make a clear decision... Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond.
I to would like to know what everyone is thinking about this. I also would like to change out the wood blocks to static cling just for the space issue alone.
I see ur point with wanting to unmount for space reasons. I am still relatively new to this so I dont have a problem with space, but have used EZ mount. It can be costly but works well. One thing I recently tried and like allot is Tack N Peel by Tsukineko. It is more cost effective then Ez mount,if you have allot of stamps. Just thought I'd throw that idea your way.
I agree with Bugga...there is lots of discussion in many threads about the issue of unmounting stamps!
I unmounted all of mine...every last one...well, there are a couple of wood ones that are new that I haven't got to, but you get the picture. I even unmounted my wheels!
I put my rubber on EZMount. I tried alenes tack it over and over and don't like it AT ALL. I am converting those over to EZMount. I tried clear vinyl cling on the original foam...that was worse! Those are being converted as well. I LOVE my EZMounted stamps! Yes it is pricey. But I average 6-7 sets on a sheet and I only buy it when I find a good price. I never pay more than $2.99 a sheet. I consider 50 cents per set to be manageable. I had never heard of tack and peel when I started, but I can't do some of each so I'll stay with what I started with. I would definitely check it out if I was starting unmounting today.
The space savings is phenomenal! In the storage space that I used to have an average of 8 sets I can now fit about 25 sets. (that is my way of storing...there are many ways to store your stamps, and everyone will have slightly different results) With my big backgrounds, 18 of them fit where I had 4 before!
I don't sell many sets anymore. I got rid of the ones I wasn't liking much before I started unmounting. I will probably keep all I have and I am not buying as many sets as I used to. I also only buy what I LOVE and know will be timeless. I think that the value does go down when stamps are unmounted...but there are more and more people unmounting so I also think that the resale market is growing.
This is the main reason I don't buy SU stamps - the wood block. Space is at a premium for me, so I don't get anything that is going to prove difficult to store. I'd definitely get these stamps if I didn't have to use the wood block.
Yep....lots of people have done it...and most sets fit in a CD case, or there are many simple storage solutions for multiple sets.
As mentioned, this subject has come up before, and has had TONS of comments, so maybe search for *unmounting* and you will get more results faster than waiting for all those who have done it already to respond.
My main reason for NOT doing it, is the value of some SU sets will be cut in half if I unmount them, and I don't keep anything forever. I am going to do my wheels though, bought the EZ mount, but haven't gotten around to the project time-wise.

I have just started unmounting some of my SU sets. For the most part I will leave the sets that I already have as they are and any new sets that I get I will unmount them. I buy alot of stamps that are just rubber and I love that, because it does save alot of space. I use the Gina K binders to store my unmounted stamps and I can get alot of stamps into one binder. I like using the EZ mount as I still like to have the cushion feel to my stamps, but that is a personal preference. As for resale value I agree with one of the other posters, that there are alot of people switching so I don't think that it should effect selling prices to much.
i unmounted my SU sets a whlie back and wow, they all fit into a few binders and easy to flip through and see what i have. no regrets, and the new sets i got from SU i didn't mount on the wood. i sure wish they'd give us the option of purchasing their sets um.
I went unmounted and like EZMount. But, you may prefer bare. Try both before you take a big plunge and do it all. Luckily, I chose wisely.

I just started unmounting mine too. I have done about 50 sets so far. There are different brands of cling mount so I checked the forums here to see what others like best, Ez mount was the clear winner. I do have to say that I like them better this way by far. It make it easier to store, I can see where the stamp will stamped better, and this allows me to stamp more than one stamp at a time (ie: using a larger block and putting 3 stamps on it at the same time). My one suggestion is HOT KNIFE this tool will make the job easier and you wil have nice clean cuts
I am soooo glad I unmounted mine. I use the EZ mount as I found the cling didn't give me the cushion I liked and tack it over and over for me was frustrating cause I like to stamp and set them down and sometimes stuff would stick to the back of the stamps.
I keep the current on wood blocks until they retire and then they come off. I have over 300 sets and it was a little time consuming but worth it in the end. I am now able to get all but the 30 or so that are current in CD cases into 2 iris cart drawers. What a space saver. I would do it all over again.

I've unmounted most of mine on ez mount. I really don't care about selling them, although I think if you saved the blocks, you could run the rubber through a xyron and re-stick them to the wood.
I LOVE mine unmounted! I have saved so much space it is not even funny! I went from a 4 drawer lateral filing cabinet down just a few CD holders (each CD holder can hold 50 sets...not to shabby).
WOW!!!! This is good info.... I love my wood stamps and I do sell some when I no longer want to use them...that was my big concern... But I'm also not thrilled with the clear stamps... I know...you guys are like WHAT??? But I've used clear stamps and didn't like the way my stamped images where coming out...so I got rid of all my clear stamps and have just stuck with the wood ones.... So does the feel of the stamp differ? Like I know it's going on an acrylic - but does it still stamp well because it is a rubber stamp on an acrylic? Does that make any sense to anyone???
I have a glue stick, I just add it to the back of the unmounted stamp and place it onto the acrylic mount, once i have used the stamp I just wash the glue away.
