Default What can I do with my stash of Mica Powders?

Hello....
I think I have been into every kind of crafting phase as probably most of you have also. I recently ran across a huge array of mica's I bought when I was doing the soapmaking thing. Any ideas on what I can do with these micas?
Glimmer mist maybe? Would love ideas. Thank you.... Jane

I was going to suggest either glimmer mist or some shimmer paints.

I too would appreciate ideas on two of these things.... I have Mica Flakes - I bought them thinking they would be awesome to use with cards. But I have no idea on how to use them! The flakes are stiff and hard though they do break up.

I also have pigment powders... and no idea how to easily use them. Would love ideas and suggestions.

I am curious as to how and what they are used for.

I use Mica powder in a couple of ways.. both mentioned in earlier posts..

Shimmer Mist: 4part Mica Powder+ 1part gum arabic and water in a mini mister. If you want color you can add a drop or 2 of re-inker.

Shimmer paint: A small amount of white (any color will work) of watercolor paint add in Mica Powder, and water, mix well. You can also add re-inker for color or just use a particular color of paint. I have made Shimmer paint with a larger amount of Gum arabic, water and Mica also.

These are the ways I use Mica Powder in addition to making small amount of watercolor paint with the Shimmer 1st recipe on my non-stick sheet.

I love Mica Powders and use them alot- plan on buying the Pearl Ex 32 colors pack next.
They can be so shimmery!

Have fun and experiment!!

I was never lucky enough to get my hand on them and now can't seem to find any to buy online. So I can't help you on that.. Sorry... I have read in a couple magazines on how to use Mica chips (they are alot larger then flakes) but never tried it either.

My experience is only on Mica Powders....That is what I thought the first poster was asking about... I would help ya- if I could...

If you're talking about pearl ex, which I think are mica powders, you can stamp or sponge versa mark ink on something then sponge or dry brush the pearl ex on that. It gives a bit of shimmer and color. I've been doing that lately and enjoying it.

Go to USArtQuest.com. I think Susan has a video on ways to use the flakes. I have a LOT of the mica powders and made my own paints using the Liquetex Pearl Medium, which you can find in the art sections of M's and HL. I just poured the medium into small jars and added the powders (you can also dilute with a small amount of water), then stirred with a "popsicle" stick. I just use sponge brushes to apply to cardstock and coasters.

Hope this helps.
Have a great day. Millie
