Red face Went to Michaels but didn't see much to use my 50% coupon on. Wonder about Sizzix?

I am not into scrapbooking yet but I am wondering about getting the Sizzix for squares, circles, tags etc.
Is that a wise purchase? I can't decide.
I have some punches so I could try and sell those. Just thinking out loud I guess.
If any of you have sage advise I would take it

I like my Sizzix but just a word to the wise there are about a bamillion different machines out there for die cutting now. You might want to look at several before you make a decision. See if you can get a store to let you try it out before you buy since it's such a big purchase. For the sizzix you have to cut the paper down before you can use it which I find annoying. I find that I still use my punches for a number of things. With all that said I still enjoy using my sizzix and I find it useful for fun stuff like making shaker cards.

I used my coupon to get the Fiskars paper trimmer with the metal facing and all the markings for standard size cards. I love it much better than my old Fiskars one. It made it a sweet deal at $12.50.

I'm just wondering if you will get enough use out of it. I have the sizzix sidekick and love it. But I also still use my punches. Not only do I use it for scrapbooking
I use it for home decorating.I cut out and mounted flowers in my daughters room. I like the alphabet sets for titles in scrapbook pages. The thing I like about buying from Michaels is that you can use a coupon.

There is another tool out, the ellison big shot that cuts everything. I would get that one over the sizzix which is really heavy and clunky.

I checked around town and no one has the Big Shot. Guess I will have to get it online. The reviews on Joanns are good. Thanks

I've been cardmaking for about 2 years now, and do not own any cutting machine. Like you, I do have a few punches. I figure if I purchased a cutting machine, then I'd always be wanting the next cutting die, and spending way too much money.
If there is a specific die/punch you'd like, maybe you can request somebody to punch you a few for an RAK.
Or, sometimes a LSS will let you use the tools during crops. My advice would be to check around before spending lots of money. It's easy to break the bank purchasing all the different dies.

I have a Cricut - and LOVE it!! I too had a Sidekick, but the dies were so expensive! Sure, the Cricut is spendy up front - but when you consider all the things that one cartridge will do - well, it is much cheaper that the Sixxix -

You can't use a coupon at Michaels any longer, I still was able to use the 40% off - - so it made it much nicer! I guess Michael's folks got wind of how many of us really like the machine and took all the things off and unavailable for purchase with the coupons! sherrie

You know - I went in Michaels and came back out without using my 50% off coupon either. I have a Sizzix, but don't use it that terribly much. I ONLY buy SU cardstock (SU snob you could say - tee hee), I got a new guillotine cutter from SU that I absolutely LOVE, and the only thing I even considered was the Crop-a-dile tool for $28. I looked at it, picked it up, looked at it some more. I can set the SU eyelets with the 1/16" hole punch, so I thought no, I really didn't need it, you know? I just left without using it at all. Hmm.

I get frustrated with Michael's and the coupons. I do shop there A LOT, so I must not be too frustrated. Everything I want to use the coupon for, will be marked down 10%, which is not as great a deal as the 40% or 50%!

I was just there yesterday and loved all the $1 stamps for fall and halloween! I just bought a Xyron Personal Cutting System - I got it on Ebay and am dying to get it!

If I can't find anything else to use the coupons on I will usually stock up on cartridges for my Xyron 510.

May I ask where you guys have been getting the coupons for Michael's? We used to get them in the Sunday paper but they've not been doing that lately and I've not been in the store to ask 'what's up?' My mam is coming over from Ireland in October and wants to get the new Xyron diecut machine that she has seen advertised but would like to use a coupon. Thanks for your help.

Ruth.
