The lady at the art store triednto talk me into buying pastels and grating them. I didn't bite, but wondered if anyone tried doing that. Wonder if it would work the same. I will check with my LSS to see if she has bisters or brushos or maybe could order them for me. Otherwise I'm sunk. I don't think Michaels or acmoore carries them.
You can do this if you stamp with Versamark, or a clear embossing ink. Works really well too, lol.
Thanks, Susan. I'll bookmark that and see when the set of 8 comes back into stock. I certainly don't need the 80g jars!! Except that I could share them round .
Well, ha, Ireland isn't listed, so I can't even create an account yet. Australia, Japan, no Ireland! I like that I could pay directly from my bank account.
I didn't try that, Dini. I just did a DI background, then stamped in Versamark, grating artist pastels over the top and dusting off with a soft brush. I had a box full of Artist pastels, and wondered how I could maybe use them. It might well work though, I imagine you'd need to seal it afterwards. Sorry, I've just realised after re-reading it, my comment wasn't very clear. I meant about the grating Artist pastels that the poster had been told to try.
oh, you people are just awful! I broke my ankle badly last week - surgery next week, plates and screws and pins here we come. I can't even get to the Mom Cave - aka my studio, as it isn't quite wheelchair friendly, and I've been wanting Brushos or some such thing as that, and now I had to google Yupo and I'm going to have to have that, too! Quite the shopping list I'm going to have while I'm laid up, and not earning any money while I'm out of doing markets during my busy seasons of work. Boo hiss, *and thank you for the distraction from the pain!

You folks are just awful! I've been ignoring (translation: trying to convince myself to buy) Brushos for a couple months now, and now you go post about three more similar products with reviews and storage ideas and then I have to go google Yupa paper, and geeez, you are just rotten for my wallet! And here I am, laid up since last Friday, the 3rd with a badly broken ankle, surgery next Thursday - here we come, plates and pins and screws, and the wheelchair won't accommodate a trek into the Mom Cave, aka my studio, so I'm just perusing some of my favorite places and typing in run-on sentences (thank you pain meds) and trying not to make life decisions about how much debt to get into right now....*and thank you for the distraction, ladies. You're the best

Well, thanks to all the input, I ordered the Brushos off of Amazon - good price too! And, I took Dina's suggestion for the bottles and funnels, so they may all arrive around the same time!! Don't know why I can't stop at one product, I already had the Color Bursts, but then you know how that is!! I was going to just poke the hole, and use tape across the top, but thought the bottles would be much easier. I think I ordered the plastic ones, but, I shouldn't have a problem. I've been tapping the bottom of the Color Bursts on the table if they seem to be clogged or don't sprinkle out, then they work just fine.
I can hardly wait for these new colors to show up. Love how these powders work!!!
Queen of Inkland, given your hand strength issue, have you tried just piercing the hole in top of the Brusho container and shaking the powder out like a salt shaker? That is how the company recommends doing it and it's what I've always done and find it very easy. Since I got used to using Brushos that way, I put my Bisters in a similar container and use them the same way.
Dini, I had to pause in my "bottle transfer" to thank you immensely for you suggestion and links in your earlier post. I ordered my Brushos, bottles and funnels you suggested, and the transfer from the pots is going so smoothly, it's unbelievable!!! No mess and it does all fit!! I'm using a brush to clean everything and can't believe how simple. As I'm putting a label on my bottle, I'm using another damp brush to pick up some dust to put on the corner of the label to show the color - so simple.
You are a genius, and thank you for sharing your idea, and links with the rest of us to make it so easy!!! What a jewel to SCS!!!!!
I love my Color Bursts, saw them demoed at the rubberstamp convention that I went to this past April... Loved how they were used and love working with them. I played with them and used some of my samples with them in my Pocket Letters... here goes Ken's video that explains more of his Color Bursts... hope he gets some more colors out soon.

I just got some color bursts from someone very special so now I can play! Thank you Dina!
Uh oh........look out!!! They are so much fun and very addicting!!! Your creative mind starts going a mile a minute with possibilities!!!!! That's how I ended up buying Brushos too, I couldn't stop with just the few color choices!!! Aren't I terrible??!!
I purchased Brushos from Amazon and today was the first chance I had to play with them. All I did was take a bunch of tacks and push a tack in the top of each one. For me, that gave me a big enough hole to shake the Brusho out and then I just put the tack back into the top. That way I can also keep them in the box they came in.

Great idea to keep the tack in the top - I'm going to do that to avoid accidental spillage.

Hi Dini, first off, I just wanted to say thanks for such a fabulous tutorial. I'd bought Brushos a few months ago, and not actually done anything with them. I downloaded your tutorial, and sat and watched it the other night, which gave me the shove I needed to get mine out! Loved how you explained everything so clearly, and can I also say you have a lovely voice to listen to? That one point can get me turning off a video faster than anything, lol.
Second, and the reason for quoting the pastels, was that one video I watched over the last week, a lady was trying out various things to see if she could duplicate the appearance of Brushos, but cheaper. One thing she did was grate pastels onto card and spritz with water. Because her colours were pale, so was the background, but the process actually did work!
I'll be giving it a try out myself, just to see what happens, but I was really surprised to see it worked!
I'm very late to the party...but, thank you so much Dini for the info listing and tutorial on the watercolor crystal comparison. I have decided I cannot wait for Christmas; I want to order now! Has anyone ordered from the UK with delivery to the US? The prices SEEM to be cheaper across the pond, even with shipping, but I may be mistaken, and also put on trial for treason. ;p

Well, after reading about these crystals for months and seeing all the beautiful backgrounds people have made, and watching bunches of videos, I finally clicked the order button on a set of 24 Brusho on Amazon (it was a way better deal than a set of 12). Now I have to try to be patient for the estimated arrival time of Sept . 11-24).

Bummer Claudia! Want me to send you a little bit of a few colors to console you?
Aw, Lydia, you are so sweet and generous! I still have 3 weeks of caring for my grandkids before they return to school (start late in Michigan) and then I have a vacation and a scrapbook retreat planned, so I guess I'll be keeping busy enough between now and when my new toys arrive! I'll enjoy the powders vicariously through the beautiful work the rest of you ladies are doing : )

I bought all three - Brushos, Color Bursts, and Bisters. Miss Lydia is mad at me cuz I enabled her into buying the Autumn set of Brushos. LOL
They all work fabulously with water, whether you are misting them, mixing them, or spraying them. I've had a blast playing with them and getting familiar with them.
Waiting for mine to come from Amazon, too...I love it when you all enable my addictions. I bought the 24 set and the autumn colors..well heck, it will be close to autumn when they get here....

There are 15 gorgeous colors (including a pink, which we'd all been hoping for) and they come in 5g pots. I purchased 3, but haven't had a chance to try them out yet.
There is another line of powders on the market now by Magenta, called Nuance

Sure...FINALLY break down, break the bank, break the storage system and buy some, and the NEXT DAY there is a NEW PRODUCT That wouldn't take me five weeks to get...
Truly, just laughing, and oh my, I could spend a long time looking at the artwork in that brochure! Wow! Thanks, Dina!

Lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala
Those are so tempting, and the colors are just gorgeous! Thank you Dini for the "enabling" info!!!! You're right, that pink is beautiful along with the lavender!!! I need more, like I need a hole in the head!!!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! I love them all!
If you want to go with the cheapest ones - get the Bisters. These are a more earthy color, perfect for landscapes and autumn projects.
If you don't mind only having 6 colors - get the Color Bursts. These are the easiest to work with since they come in the special bottle with the dropper-type opening. The others come in pots and you have to figure out how to sprinkle them around. These are very bright and bold and vivid compared to the Bisters.
If you want LOTS of colors - get the Brushos. These are the most expensive, and it can take longer to get them. There was at least a month-long wait on Amazon for these.
The Nuance powders fall in a middle range as far as price per gram... they have some really pretty colors, so I just picked a few that filled in colors I don't have from other lines. Haven't tried them out yet.

I'm not good about just picking one or two colors. I always have to have the WHOLE collection, no matter what it is. LOL Like ALL the Nancy Drew books, ALL the Crayola crayons, ALL the stamps and toys!! LOL
