A friend told me a pasta maker works the same. She found a few options at a thrift store/Goodwill.

Connie.....You will never get the results to satisfy you using a rolling pin or a pasta machine. You need to have the compression of a roller machine specifically made for this purpose.

If you can't afford the Cuttlebug, why not just do hand embossing? There are many nice templates that Fiskars puts out specifically for hand embossing. Also, you could also do it free hand creating your own design.

I actually found a Zip E Mate for $15 at a thrift store. I believe the company discontinued making them? The Cuttlebug folders go right through and the embossed images are lovely! I use it all the time and am a huge fan of the darling Cuttlebug folders!

(I think each company tries to convince you that you need THERE machine. NOT SO-----most/many are interchangable these days. Check it out).

You might try craigslist or ebay and type in Zip E Mate. Same concept.
Works lovely. No need for me to have a spendy cuttlebug.

Good luck!

The secret to deep embossing when you're using either a rolling pin or a pasta machine is dampened paper...the dampening soften the fibers of the paper.

Here's an entry on my blog that describes how to dampen paper:
