I bought one today. I love love love how it performs!!!
I have one question though?
Who the heck ever decided that orange and grey is easy to read? Really? Hello!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to go blind just trying to read the stupid thing. Dare I say the design team is colour blind?
I still love it. Hate the colour LOL
OK, I feel better now. LOL

After you use it awhile, you go 'color blind' because you are so thrilled with the clean cuts you get when you use this cutter. If you notice some areas are cutting a little fuzzy, just move the cutter arm like you are cutting paper and nudge it slightly toward the base and this will help sharpen the blade. I do the up/down motion quickly several times. I have had my Tonic for 4/5 years and it is still cuts fine. I have it out on my worktable along with my CB, Big Shot and ScorPal (full size version).
I agree! Love, love LOVE how it performs but will go blind trying to read the orange and grey. I may have to keep a magnifying glass next to my cutter to avoid getting deep set wrinkles from squinting!
Another thumbs up for the Tonic cutter. Best cutter I've ever had - and I have a graveyard of cutters. LOL I'm not wild about the color combo either. I'm guessing that color was designed by a man. Men seem to love the color orange for some reason. LOL

Love, Love this cutter too! I don't know why ANY Paper cutter manufacture out there doesn't put the markings along the BOTTOM PART OF THE RULER (the part closest to the platform of the cutter). This is the part where, at least for me, is easiest read. Hope I'm explaining myself correctly.
But all in all it's the best cutter I have..........and I have (or had) a graveyard :(:( of cutters
Not about the tonic cutter, but Dovecraft brought out a steel edged ruler, which I ordered online without seeing it first. It turned out to be a dark magenta/fuschia colour with black markings!. :confused:Whatever happened to testing out products with the people who will be using them, you know, a bit of good old-fashioned market research? Very swiftly replaced it with a Tim Holtz ruler. I mean, it works fine if you just wanted to randomly cut, but if you need to line up straight, or cut matts, its completely useless.
Lol! I have had mine 2 years and you get used to it. You can always take a fine tip black permanent marker and add lines where you tend to cut the most frequent. Enjoy your cutter....it is one of the best, IMHO
I have some tools that you could barely see the measurements so I rubbed a dark purple sharpie in the grooves then wiped the surface with an alcohol pad to clean it up and the grooves are now all purple and easy to read. Of course you can use you can use any dark color, I just love purple. Might not be pretty but tools don't have to be pretty they just have to work without driving us crazy. Hth.
Hi wenchie, how ya doin!!! I have this same Tonic cutter and I love it, have had it a few years. I thought the same thing you did about going blind trying to see so I solved my problem. I took my making memories white paint and brush and wiped it over the ruler parts and wiped it off so it was just in the lines and numbers. Then let it set over night to dry good. Problem solved and it has never had to be redone. I wouldn't trade this cutted of any other. (You can use a damp cloth to wipe off the orange)
Look at what it's doing? It's just a cutter, so really, it can't be that I'm doing it wrong huh? Insert paper, press down plastic paper holdy thingies and cut.
This is what I'm getting . . . .
Now, if I press the cutting blade in a bit tighter to the cutter body it'll cut cleaner, but then the blade tends to jam up about half way down. :(
Has anyone else had this happen? Is there an easy fix? Now I don't even care about the colour. I just want it to work right.

Have you tried moving the cutting arm up and down rapidly - pushing toward the base so the two metal area are in contact? I was told this helps sharpen the blade if a section gets dull.
I had the spring that holds the cutting arm up break. This is what I was told when I called Tonic and described my problem - arm no longer stayed up. I was sent a replacement and didn't even have to send the old one back. Try Customer Service. They were very helpful to me. Kept a sticky note handy with the number I called and the date, name of person I talked to and his direct number, so if I didn't receive my replacement in a timely manner, I could call again.
Well crud! I get a clean cut every time and you should as well. Call Tonic customer service ASAP and also email your photos to them so they can see. I'm pretty sure they will correct the problem. Good luck!

I agree, call customer service. I have had mine for several years and it cuts clean. It I get a little ragged edge I Put the handle up a down a few times and it sharpens itself. They will probably replace yours.
So, on the advice of others, I emailed Tonic on Monday.
I received the following response from a Mr. Steve Ramsey:
Thank you for your email. Yes if you have some photo's of the problem and can advise where on the unit the problem is happening, that would be helpful. Also, please email me back with your mailing address and Tonic will send out a new item 454 to you at no extra charge.
Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.
A perfect example of excellent customer service. There are many other vendors/manufactureres who could/should take a page out of Tonic's book. I'd recommend them to all my friends now. What a great and positive customer experience!

So glad to hear they are taking good care of you. Like I said before I love my Tonic cutter and solved the problem of not seeing the lines and numbers in my post #15.
I can second Tonic's customer service. I purchased one of their papper trimmers three years ago (not guillotine). Last year I asked about purchasing an extra scoring blade just in case I lost mine and they do not appear to carry them here locally. I was in the U.S. at the time and the LSS there called Tonic and spoke to the owner and he then asked me to send him an email with my addy. Within a week I had not one but 3 scoring blades and my original one still works perfectly. That is what I call above and beyond service.
I loved my big Tonic Cutter so much that I bought the smaller one. I consider these probably the best thing that I have ever bought for my stamping room!! But now ---the store where I bought it closed and not sure where I am going to get replacement blades for my small one. If I ever need to replace one of them ---it will again be a Tonic!!
New cutter arrived yesterday! It only took 3 days. It cuts like a dream. I heart Steve Ramsey LOL
BTW . . . if you ever have to contact them, I went through their Contact Us form on the website and receive a response in under 24 hours and every other response from them was same day prompt.
