I don't think the heat gun would be the test solution. You can use
Crystal Effects, and put a little dot on wax paper, and pick it up with a toothpick or pin to apply to your rhinestone. That works for me. I'm using 5 mm on my Christmas cards, and they are as tiny as I can go, as my fingers aren't as nimble as they used to be. Eileen
I use the tiny rhinestones quite often. I got the really tiny ones off a nail supply on ebay. I do have some of the heat set ones but its easier to crystal effects them on rather than dig out the heat wand and find the right tip. For the itty bitty ones like on this card here I take a tooth pick and put the dot of crystal effects where I want the stone to go and then with tweezers place the stone on it - I find it to be a little bit easier than the other way around with the really tiny ones.

Ok...the rhinestones make this card AWESOME! (Not my card...)
But does anyone have a name (brand) for them? I would like to order online, and I am tired of sifting through millions of regular rhinestones to find these.
Also are you guys using a tweezers or what to set them?? I am having a heck of a time pinching tiny dew drops to get them in their glue dot without rolling them around and sticking to my fingers! LOL
You can cut through the glue lines on the carrier sheet (don't try to peel 'em off) with your scissors or an Xacto knife, and then use a Quickutz QuickStik Tool to "pick 'em" off the carrier sheet and easily apply 'em to your project. That way, your fingers never have to deal with 'em, cuz they are fairly tiny. ;)

I wish I had known not to peel them off, before I tried to peel them off! GRRR!
Anyway, my shipment of rhinestones came from Ebay today. They are very nice. There was a mistake with my order and I only received a fraction of what I was supposed to, but the woman answered my email within minutes and all is right with the world.
I will be bookmarking this store and ordering again. I suggest it to you all, since I did some comparison shopping and there's no beating these prices.

Have fun, ladies!
Oh. :( That's a bummer! Yeah, the self-sticking ones are on a glue line, which holds them to the carrier sheet in the packaging. You don't want to separate the rhinestone from the glue line itself--just the carrier sheet; that's what will hold it to the paper surface, when you transfer it.
I learned about the QuickStik from Jenn Shurkus--I think my jaw fell open when she showed me--Brilliant! LOL!

LOL, now that makes sense!! That's why I had so much trouble with that glue line!
I just got a shipment from the Ebay store Sweetpeas. They were great. I got 4mm green crystals 5 gross and 2mm clears 1 gross. I will never have to buy green again-LOL They are very pretty and are not cheap looking. I'm thrilled and will buy again. I "need" more colors in the 4mm size. The 2mm are very tiny!!!
I love the Hotfix Rhinestones I got from Ebay too...I just posted on a similar thread about just using a tweezers and heating them up with my heat gun. Works great!

I'd like to know too What size is everyone usually using? 3mm?
I was going to ask the same question since I need to order some more. Seems like I tend to grab the 4mm size the most. Sweetpeas has a mix of 3,4 & 5 that looks interesting.

Peggy can you provide a link? I am not good at finding individual ebay stores! Thanks!!
I just made a $30.00 purchase from the seller on Ebay...cant wait to get the gems. I got a whole lot of different ones and what great prices. I purchased a hotfix applicator at Michaels. They were $10.99 minus the 40% off coupon so I think a really good deal. The gems ship today so I will let you know if I like them. I dont see why I wouldnt though.
Blessings.
I ordered some crystals on eBay the other day, I got an assortment of sizes in clear crystals and mixed assortment of colored gems, I also found a place that sells hot fix pearlized in the UK and they are 200 for $1.88 Canadian so I ordered 8 different colors. I think when they all get here I will be set for awhile with bling. I have included links to the eBay stores.
I am waiting for an order from Sweetpeas too and I am now getting the Bejeweller tool for Christmas!
I had looked at the tool before but decided that the stones worked out to be too expensive to 'play' with, thanks to this thread I can now afford lots!!
I just got the rest of my order from sweetpeas. There was an error at first, but it was fixed right away and I am thrilled with the service and the order.
I will definitely buy from there again, it looks like they have the lowest prices.
Also wanted to add that I got the 3mm hotfix stones, and I used my embossing heatgun to set them. I just lightly held the stone down with a toothpick and used the heatgun for a few seconds. That was a few days ago, and the stones are still stuck! So it's a good alternative for people who don't have the money to spend on an additional tool.

Interesting way to set them using the heat gun. I normally hold mine with tweezers and then heat. Did you have any problem with the paper burning?
I was wondering if anyone has ever used the hot fix crystals on glass? I have a couple of ideas for gifts and wondering if they will stick to the glass. Thanks for your help.
Okay...now I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on hot fix wands. I think I might *need* this tool. ;)
I have a Kandi Kane that I've used for years and absolutely love it. It's perfect for cards and scrapbooking, and I even used it to decorate my sister-in-law's wedding veil! The instructions are really easy to use and it comes with loads of crystals and studs to get you started.
I had a peek on ebay.com (to check it was available in the US as well as UK - how silly of me, you guys get everything we do with bells on!) and found this:
I just got my sweetpeas order, too. I ordered a multicolored mix, 10 gross of 4mm beads, so 1440 crystals for $16, I think, including shipping insurance...
I haven't had time to play yet, but they look awesome!
The only :( part is that each of the ten gross is a multipack. For some reason, I thought it would be one gross of each of ten colors. I can just see myself dividing them up one at a time... yikes!
I buy my rhinestones from oriental trade have never had a problem with them. I found this great tool at archivers that picks up these rhinestones and places were you want them, I can't live without it..Its called quickstik. If you are in the store have them demo it for you. good luck, Darla

Pick up a couple of plastic palettes at Michael's (in back by the oil paints & brushes). They're only a couple of dollars each at most, and those little wells are perfect for sorting colors, since the palette is white and you can see the color of what's in it. I don't think I've ever sorted that big a bunch at once, but I have done some smaller bags of beads that way. You don't have to do all 10 gross at once, just do one of the smaller bags at a time.
One big hint, though - if you decide to sort them on a tv table while watching Dexter and you need to get up to go to the bathroom, be extra careful to not catch the table with your foot and totally upend it. You'll be picking sparkles out of the carpet for weeks. Purely hypothetically speaking, of course.
