Default Are there other ways besides scorpal?

To score a paper? I have the bone folder from SU but it doesn't work that well. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Are you trying to score with the paper on a hard surface, or a padded one?

You can use a mouse pad, or a magazine, or even a sheet of fun foam.

Make sure you are using a straight edge to guide your bone folder.

I like the Scor-Pal because I can do multiple score lines without having to mark and measure--wicked awesome for making boxes and other types of projects.

I used to use a butter knife and quilting ruler, which works pretty well. The butter knife gives a crisper line than a bone folder and it is a bit more precise. I do recommend folding with the valley inside the fold when scoring with the butter knife though.

My Scor-Pal is WONDERFUL, though. It was a birthday present about a month ago, and it sits out on my cutting table where I use it on every single card. With it, I fold with the valley on the outside of the fold, and it looks gorgeous. Now I need to experiment with decorative scoring, which is a look I adore.

Some people score with their paper trimmer...I think you can score with the scoring blade in or just leave the blade out all together and run the bone folder down the recessed area (does that make sense?).

my paper trimmer has a scoring attachment thingy. Just pop out the cutting blade and replace with the scoring one. I am settling for that until I get my ScorPal....

I have the crafters companion scor tool and it works for my purposes. I bought it at joann.com and used a coupon so it was like $10.

My Fiskars cutter comes with a black scoring blade. Or you can buy them at Michael's And that's what I use. Also, I don't waste money on bone folders. I have some of those ribbon boxes from HL and Mike's and use the dividers for a bone. JMO

I have a cutterpede and I use the scoring tool with that. It gives me a nice, straight scoring line.

Although, that Score-pal looks really awesome. I don't know if I really NEED it though since I have a scoring tool....so anyone have ideas on something I can do with the Scor-pal that I can't do with my cutterpede & scoring blade? I gotta justify it, at least to mysel f

I just bought my Scor-Pal and like using it. No more crooked score lines.

I've using the scoring tool that comes with my Fiskars trimmer with a little sucess. My line almost always came out a little crooked so the edges didn't meet when folded. I think it was because the trimmer would always bow in the middle from the downward pressure that I applied.

I did try another method that I liked before I bought my Scor-Pal. I first measured out exactly where I wanted to fold my cardstock and made a small tick mark using a pencil. I then used my bone folder and scored using the grooves on my 12" x 12" Tonic trimmer. It works great as long as you have a perfectly square or rectangular piece of paper.

I have a Scor Pal & think it was an awesome investment. It sits out on my worktable so is always handy since I use it for almost all my projects. The biggest advantage to having one is when you have multiple scores on one piece of c/s-no more moving the paper and taking a chance of an error that would mean starting over with a new piece of c/s. Great for waterfall cards, boxes, etc.

You can also use a scor-pal to make decorative scores...I'll see if I can find an example in the gallery. I love the "quilted" look - really adds texture to a card!
edited: couldn't find the exact card I was looking for, but you could go to the gallery and search "scor pal" or go to the scs home page, click on the scor pal sponsor logo, and go to their site to see some really cool projects done with it (many of which are next-to-impossible to do without s.p.)

I use a bone folder, embossing tool, butter knife or whatever is handy, and the crack in my table where the leaf goes in. Can use huge pieces of paper that way. That being said I would love to have the Scor-Pal so I wouldn't have to measure.

I love my stampin up cutter, the recessed area (where the blade cuts) & the embossing tool from Stampin up are the best tool if you do not have the scor it!
what I love about our cutter is how they marked the plate every half inch - it helps when you score edges of a A-2 box like the one on my site...

I'd love to get a score-pal some day, but in the meantime my "ran-out-of-ink" ball point pens and my good ruler are just fine.

I have the Tonic Guillotine trimmer and it actually has score marks on it every half inch, so I use that to score my cards. But you can use a bone folder and ruler.

I have every other cutter on the market. My very fav is our SU! cutter. then the second best is the old blue cutter from Creative Memories. I have then out and at any event I do. You just keep an eye on your edges. Make sure that everything is lined up and cut!

I use my bone folder and the well in my paper trimmer- works fine for me!

To me the scor tools seem like an egg slicer- I already own plenty of things which would work just fine, but the speciatly tool might make it marginally easier for me.

So funny this topic came up I was at my favorite LSS recently and got to use a scorpal which was so much easier than I thought. Unfortunately I don't have one so I used my bone folder last night for the first time and well it didn't go to good! When I folded the paper cracked slightly. So I tried a couple more time and it was better but I am having difficulty getting a really straight fold. I used it on a large cutting mat which has a grid so I could use a ruler but still a lil crooked here and there. I will keep trying! I've heard such good things about the scorpal......

I love my scorpal and use it on every card. It's the best $$ I have spent on this hobby in a while! (I got mine at Archivers with a 30% off coupon).
