Default Substitute for Creamy Caramel?

Okay, I'm desperate. I llllooooovvveeee Creamy Caramel dye ink for inking the edges of paper for a vintage look. I need to find a similar color replacement that is currently on the market with that same orangey-brown hue. I've tried SU's new colors, and nothing is really similar. I don't care who the manufacturer is. Any thoughts?

Amy, I have Creamy Caramel. Just bought it last year before they decided to retire it. If you would like it, PM me your address and I'll send it to you. (I assume you live in the U.S.) I have had so many others do kind things for me, I would love to pass on the favor! I don't have a reinker, but it should last a while for you.

Awww, how sweet of you to offer that! I've thought about buying some off of Ebay or something. The problem is, you can't submit cards for publication that are made with products that are no longer sold. Hence my need to find something that's currently on the market. But thank you so much for offering- that's very kind and generous of you

Oh, I understand now. I hope I get some use out of it before it dries up since I didn't buy the reinker! Have you tried Tim Holtz's distress ink? I bought some Antique Linen today and the color is similar, however it may not be good for solid images. Mostly for edging, etc.

I was going to suggest the Tim Holtz Distress Inks as well. They are sold in stores like Hobby Lobby, A.C. Moore and Michael's. Depending on your area those stores might not have much of a color selection.

There are a few colors that are used to created that vintage look, Antique Linen, or Tea Dye, Old Paper and Vintage Photo come to mind. I don't own them so I can't say which comes closest to the Creamy Caramel. The online store Ranger Industries Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads - TIM - ScrapbookingAlley.com seems to have the best prices.

There is also Memento brand ink in Desert Sand that might work. This blog: Crafting The Web shows it used a lot to sponge in as background. Just scroll to the bottom and click on older posts to see more of her work using the Desert Sand color in particular. Good Luck finding a substitute!

I would suggest Distress Old Paper. I usually reached for that instead of Creamy Caramel.

Thanks, all! I've tried Papertrey's tea dye duo and the distress ink old paper, but I find them both to be more yellow/grey than I would like. But that Memento Desert Sand looks very promising! I wonder if any of my local craft stores carry it- Archivers, Hobby Lobby, Joanns or Michaels? This is great advice, everyone

SU sells a distressing kit with a tea stain that you may want to try.

Here's a side by side comparison of SU Creamy Caramel and Memento Desert Sand:

Substitute for Creamy Caramel?-img_2996.jpg

Sorry about the picture, my light isn't the best here today. But as you can see, the Desert Sand is a bit lighter than the caramel, but it's the same tone of brown. I think it would be the closest to creamy caramel that you'll find.

Our Michael's and Joanns doesn't sell the full-sized Memento pads, but they do sell the dew drops. I don't have a Hobby Lobby or Archivers so I can't help you there.

Distress Ink Tea Dye is much more orange than Antiuque Linen or Old Paper. You can see a pretty goof example of the color here
