Default SU watercolor crayons

I haven't used my SU watercolor crayons in forever. I have a lot of money invested in them. Let's resurrect a discussion of using them. What have you been doing lately with them? I need a jump start.

Thanks to all who reply.

I JUST used mine this past week to water color some flowers that I stamped, cut apart and reassembled to get a fuller flower.. I don't color direct to paper. I use each crayon like a pallete (sp?) and apply a wet brush to the flat end to pick up color. I haven't used them as much as I thought I would when I bought them, but isn't that the case with most things? I really like how I can control the intensity of the color and color washes are more my style (haven't jumped on the marker bandwagon). I think I want to try a couple of things.

1. Color on my brayer with the crayons and apply to wet paper to see what effect I can get.

2. Color directly onto the paper with several colors and then paint over with water to create a mottled background.

3. Color some spots on the margins of some of my daughters' coloring book pages so that they can "paint" in the car with an aqua painter. I'm thinking I'll have to put some acetate strips over the spots so that they don't stick to the other pages.

I haven't used them recently; but two years ago I used them to create a pretty night sky for my Christmas cards. I colored directly on the paper with the Night of Navy and Eggplant. More "scribbles" at the top where I wanted the sky to be darker and fewer toward what would be my horizon. Then I used an Aqua Brush and smeared it around.

I've also used them to color direct to rubber on stamps with a lot of "solid" space, then mist the stamp with water and stamp down on my paper. Depending on the look I am going for I might need to go back with a wet brush to blend out the scribble marks a little more on my paper.

My favorite way to use them is the way people will use alcohol markers. I stamp a line image ( usually with Ranger Archival Black ink ) then take a crayon and color near the edge. Maybe just a stroke or two then blend it out with a damp brush.
If I want more color I blot with a paper towel, maybe give it a quick blast with my heat tool and go back with the crayon and damp brush again.

Using them on watercolor paper of course lets you have the best chance of blending with water and not having the paper pill. But if you only need a small area colored in and are careful you can use them on SU's Whisper White or Vanilla and not create a problem.

you can rub them onto the raised side of an embossing folder, mist the folder slightly with water and run thro your machine to color and emboss in one step!
