It was a 4-piece set called Pheasant thoughts. A nice, detailed drawing of a pheasant, a pheasant feather, a leafy corner border stamp, and the sentiment, "Thinking of you on Father's Day" or close. Sold for $192.50. If you have one, stamp up some images, then sell it!
Then a few minutes later, Wild Wild West sold for $138.
I'm fascinated by the sets people like, and how much they really, really like them!
That is a ridiculous amount of money! Hmmm...what do I have that might get that kind of response???
Tomorrow I will put my sizzix machine and die collection on ebay to see how much I can make. I hope I get as much interest in my sizzix stuff as people are getting for stamp sets. LOL
That's so funny !! I remember years ago when Stella Stamper was a huge hit on E-bay. I considered selling mine, but I really like the set. I have not been able to part with ANY of my retired sets. Waaaahhhhhhhhhhh.

Be glad you haven't. I sold several of my retired sets when I first started out as a demo. Regretted it later. I've bought 3 or 4 of them off of different sights. Now I don't sell any of my sets. I've told my kids that when I die, they need to put them on ebay to get their inheritance.

oh my gosh that's great!!! so all my kids inheritance is just sitting, nicely organized in my craft room! i've got to remember to tell them that!!
I remember a few years back i sold my little air spray tool, the one where you put a marker in one end and it gives you an air brush effect, on ebay for like $50. and it was still available in the catalog...
i also know the feeling of "i've got to have that right now" and i've probably paid more than i should have for a few sets, but nothing that crazy... i wanted the level 3 all about occasions wheels but i stopped bidding at $26 and it went up to almost $50.... maybe another day!
I saw that snowflake auction too. I was going to buy a ton from the mini catalog but got very ill the week before the deadline. When I realized I had missed my change I cried and cried, my husband even told me I could buy them all at ebay but the prices are sooo super inflated for this mini catalog :(
I guess I've just never seen any stamp set that I am that so in love with to spend that much. Wonder how much of the frenzy is just people getting competitive and wanting to win the auction. This is why I set a maximum price before I even put my first bid in to avoid getting caught up in the bidding wars lol.
I have that set, and i think i only paid less then 15 for it, they are really 4 not very large stamps in the set. ( so an eyestrain when your near sighted to color)
ha how funny is that? ( someone must be shopping for Christmas the next one probably wont go so high)
Other sets that I have seen get a good amount on Ebay are the snowglobe set (don't think I could part with mine), the Sweet Herb set, and Sparkling Summer. None that got near $192.00. Now I don't feel so bad for paying $160.00 for a lot of 18 sets! lol
How insane!! I can't even imagine paying that for any stamp set, and if I did, I would not be able to use it because my husband would kill me for spending that much $$ on a stamp set. I think it's the bidding against others and winning aspect that makes people do crazy things!!
Yeah, and if you look at the user feedback number, the two who were having a "bid war" have a low feedback number on that auction. Most of the time I find they are usually the bidders who "raise the price up" so high. That irritates me sometimes (when "inexperienced bidders" bid) when I bid on eBay. I usually give up and tell myself to let "them" have it, it isn't worth it to me.
However, I am probably one who irritates others because I usually "snipe" the auction. I wait until the last 30 sec to place a bid if the amount isn't very high.

This is crazy! $192 for ONE stamp set, I could see if it was a large lot or something. Yikes!
I did have quite some success selling retired stamp sets at a recent craft fair, some of them that I still liked I jacked up the price figuring if someone was willing to pay that price I would sell them the set - I sold tons of my favorites! Oh well, that money just goes toward new, current sets!
That is crazy, think of how many other stamps you could buy. I really want 'Polar Express' and I've seen it go for $50. But I still wouldn't pay that, sheesh.

Bwhaaahhhaa! I love that and now I know what to tell my kids. Thanks for the inspiration!

I've told my kids that when I die, they need to put them on ebay to get their inheritance.
At least you had to tell yours. my son keeps offering to put them up on eBay now!
I agree about the amount some people will spend on a set. I have tried getting my hands on a lovely bird stamp (non-SU) for some time now, but I just refuse to pay $20 or more for a stamp that only sold for $9 when it was new.
If I really needed to make cards or something with a set I didn't have, I'd come here and ask if I could send my card stock to someone that has it, and kindly ask if they stamp the image for me. My request would of course include a lovely thank you gift.
I told my sons about the investment and to sell on ebay when I was gone...my oldest said why wait...you don't use all those stamps anyways...he sounds like Peter on Clean Sweep...sheesh!

Your telling me. I want Trees Three and they are going for like 40-50 right now. Does anyone have it and want to part with it and will not charge me my arm, my leg and my head? Please help I am also looking for tractor time, for some wedding invitations. Thanks
I always check to see if a set is available on the SCS buy/sell/trade forum before I look on ebay. Usually much more reasonably priced, if available here.
That's a ton of money! I actually have that set - don't use it much; but would never part with it! I've been stamping and buying SU products since 1996 so I have many, many retired sets. It's amazing how much some of the "new" stuff resembles some of the older sets!

The worst I seen was a while ago the Wild Wild West set sold on Ebay for over 300.00!!
Other STUPID things I see are current packs of cardstock selling for high prices. Other current things selling for high prices also. Many times I wanted to email these bidders and tell them to find a demo!
Not to long ago a retired pack of Marigold Morning cardstokc sol for over 20.00!
I myself could never justify paying alot more than the set originally sold for. I did however pay 28.00 for my snowglobe set on ebay though. But that was the only one I ever did that with. It was new also. But I would be way to afraid of getting ink on a set I payed alot of money for. That would have to go in a sealed glass case!
