It seems to me that SU used to sell a tool that was two pieces that when put together, allowed you to perfectly mat your image with a 1/8" or 1/4" border. I need to know what they called it, where I can get one or a similar tool. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

It was called Perfect Layers. I have one, but never use it. I gives more than just the 1/8" or 1/4" borders. It has several. I'm not even sure mine is complete, or I'd offer to send it to you. But, you should be able to 'google' Perfect Layers and find it. It was not proprietary to SU! HTH
Here is the website that sells Perfect Layers. I will say, if you aren't handy with an X-Acto knife, you might not like them.
I had a set and found them hard to use because I'm not really very good at using craft knives, and kept cutting into the rulers. I finally sold mine. Now I use my paper cutter and cut my mats in increments before I assemble my card.
Thank you ladies! That was the tool I was talking about. It won't work for the project we have going on this weekend, but now I know and can move on to another idea.

I, for one, love my Perfect Layers. I sometimes have difficulty getting precut layers to line up evenly, and I hate to ruin a card when adhering them doesn't work out as I want it to. I use this tool every chance I get. Bugga, they may have improved them since you tried them, because now they have a metal edge that you simply cannot cut into! I find I use mostly the 1/8" and 1/16" edges.

Thanks for the tip, Barbara. I'm sure a metal edge would be much better for cutting. In the meantime, since I sold mine, I've gotten really good at measuring and using my paper trimmer for my layers. (Also, my eyesight has gotten worse, so maybe I'm not so picky and precise. Ha.)

A tool that I bought a very long time ago, called a Magic Matter, allows you to create a mat in 3 or 4 sizes larger than the object (photo, etc.) Believe mine came w/4 discs; looks as if it now comes w/only 3. I don't use it often, it does require the use of scissors, but I find it invaluable for some projects.
