Default SU! Ink Changing Color?

Hello all,

A couple of days I took out my "Taken with Teal" ink (Stampin' Up!) to use it and was rather surprised how "grey" it looked...NOTHING like teal, really.

I'm wondering if ink (if not used regularly) can change color?

If so, is there anything I can do about it? Or am I now stuck with a grey "Taken with Teal" ink pad?

I can only wonder about other ink pads I haven't used in a while.

I would think a company as SU! would not have this issue, but then again, maybe it's ALL ink that does this.

Thanks for any guidance and/or tips.

I'm not sure if you have dye or pigment ink. I'm not sure if Taken with Teal was ever made in pigment ink. That color was retired at least 5 or 6 years ago. If you have a pigment pad (called Craft), again, I'm not sure they even made that color in "craft" ink, you should mash the pad with the back of a spoon. Craft/pigment ink can separate. I'm not sure about dye inks changing. But, it probably is a fairly old pad. Having no idea how or where is was stored, it's hard to say.

Hello Monkeygirl and Claudia.

Thank you both for taking the time to respond.

My TWT is a dye ink pad. Stored on my wall (in an ink pad shelf unit) and it's upside-down (well, right-side-up for SU! pads. )

It's probably just drying out. Dye inks are water-based, and over time they will dry out even if stored properly. That will cause the color to fade/change.

You can revive a dye ink pad with a reinker if you have one or can obtain one (assuming a reinker exists somewhere of a retired color from that many years ago--I don't know what SU had for reinkers back then). You could post in the B/S/T forum in search of one.

Hi Missiowa81 and thanks!

Yes, I did try using a reinker and it DID help a little bit, but not tremendously. Maybe I'll give it more ink and see if that helps a bit.

Perplexing more than troublesome, really. I have other "teal-like" inks so that's not an issue. Just was curious what could cause this.

Thanks again for your suggestion!

I have a certain distress ink (also a dye ink), that seems to dry out faster than the others, aged mahogany. I don't know if it's because it's a red, or what. I have to reink it practically every time I use it. Therefore I don't use it very often, which probably encourages it to dry out. Vicious circle. :p

Ted, I'm sure SU would welcome your question. You could email them and ask what would make that happen. I seem to remember reading threads a few years back that sometimes colors "drift" or something like that. SU has had to reformulate a color now and then. From what I remember, the ones that were reformulated were in the blue family.

Hey Ted! Our paths haven't crossed in a long time! I haven't been on the PTI message board or any other board for a long time! Hope you've been doing well. Love the new blog!
I'm not sure if this will help you or not but I just checked my Taken With Teal and it though dry stamped the right color. I moved about a year ago and my ink pads spent some 'quality' time on a moving van from hot Tucson to almost as hot Sacrament. So there never was an ink pad as neglected, abused, and mistreated as mine! Sounds like something else happened to yours??????
