I am in desperate need of some organization in my stamping area. Currently I have all my ink pads in the top drawer of a night stand! It's not really working, because I can't see all the colors. I don't really have the option of doing something wall mounted like the Ikea DVD holders many people have done.
Do you have the Color Caddy? Do you like it? Why or why not? Should I go with one of the other lazy susan style ink pad storage things on the web? I kind of like the ones that include a hole for the markers, but I'm not really willing to pay $100 for something like that. I would need the extender kit for the color caddy, so it would be $75.
Is the color caddy nice and sturdy, or is it kind of flimsy? Also, is it portable? Can I bring it to my sister's or aunt's without removing all the pads?
As you can see, I have a million questions about it! If you have it, or something else, tell me what you think of it! Thanks so much!!!!!
Have it and LOVE IT!!! It comes with 12 slots on each side so I have made each side a color family - it definitely keeps me organized!!! I don't know what I did before I had it!
It appears to be a little flimsy at first but once you get used to it and once you get stamp pads in it it is wonderful!!!
I think it would be portable - it has a handle at the top and the stamp pads sit into a little "sleeve" so I don't think they would come out if you tried to lift it and move it around. I love that you can put the reinkers on top also!
I debated on buying one of the other ones also and now I am glad I didn't because Stampin' Up offers the extender kits so you can buy as many as you want to expand your caddy!!!!
I am saving to buy another one now for my craft pads!!!
I love mine! On the 15th of this month, I will be ordering the last family of craft stampin pads and a second color caddy for all the craft stampin pads.

I finally broke down and bought one - it came yesterday and I put it together last night - I LOVE IT! I was unsure before I bought it, but am so glad I did. I also bought the extender kit and the whole thing works great.
Tammy- I had one and honestly hated it. I know I'm in the minority here. For me, I had other brands of ink pads that would not fit into the caddy. Plus, the caddy I received was very very hard to turn. In the end, I gave it away and bought a 75 slot ink holder off ebay and love it. It was the same price as the caddy and holds so much more.
I love my color caddy. I have a very small craft space and like you I had all of my stamp pads in a drawer. I could never find the stamp color I needed without taking all of the pads out of the drawer!! The caddy is well worth the money IMHO!!
I love mine, I keep it on my desk. I like that the reinkers are right in the top of it and I can grab them quickly. (I like to watercolor with the reinkers) Mine does not spin freely, I like that since I think all the pads would fly out if it did. I did buy some of the IKEA DVD holders to keep my neutral colors and craft pads on the wall.
I have a wooden unit that holds all of my stamp pads,2 wheel handles, pegs for wheels, all the markers, And the top has a spot for all the reinkers. Unit is also on a turntable.Very well made

I love mine also. I don't have a craft room, I have a dining room so there are times I need to clean it fast when we have company for dinner. (thank goodness we have a kitchen eating area also) I agree with everything sdraidersfan said, a little flimsy at first, but once you use it it all works out. I do move mine, but I hold the bottom when I carry it anywhere, I don't rely on the handle at the top. I haven't invested in the extenders yet, trying to decide if I wouldn't be better off just getting another one instead, but your thread has given some great reviews, maybe the extenders is the way to go.
Thank you to everyone for your input! I think I am leaning towards the SU Color Caddy. If I could find a wooden one that would hold at least 60 pads (or more, if they keep adding in colors!) that also held the markers I might go that route. The one's I have seen like that are well over $100 though! I would like to see the picture of Lisa62's from Hanks Crafts. I googled the name and the site is under construction.
I also appreciate the advice from people who don't like the SU color caddy (thanks Kim). I want to know what they don't like about it so I can consider those things when I decide.
I get my taxes back in two weeks, just in time to get an order in before sell-a-bration is over!
I love mine too! I take it with me when I do weekend retreats and at first I put saran wrap around it to hold the ink pads in place. Then my husband helped me load up at the end of one of those retreats and he didn't put s.wrap around it, put it in his car (he drives kinda crazy ) and not only did it not tip over during travel, everything was still in place.
I love my color caddy. I have a very small craft space and like you I had all of my stamp pads in a drawer. I could never find the stamp color I needed without taking all of the pads out of the drawer!! The caddy is well worth the money IMHO!!
Yeah I had mine in a drawer and it took me FOREVER to find colors I needed and to get ready for a workshop...UGHH!!!
Now I love my caddy and I have the one with extenders. You will love it.
DH made me the white shelves first, then I outgrew them. He's just built the large set. The ink storage is removable. He just used MDF for the case and plywood for the cross parts. It took him just a couple of hours and would be the first to admit it was really easy. And really cheap. HTH

I LOVE mine. AND I earned it 100% free through SU's Great Rewards program!!! I love SU!
I'd definitely go with the Color Caddy over a wood shelf thingy--you can't carry the wood shelf thingy with you to a crop! If you're sure you'll never go anywhere, then you could get by with it, of course. JMO

I don't take mine anywhere so it suits me fine. Leaves me more cash for rubbah.
Well, so far it seems like the only complaints about the color caddy are that it doesn't fit all types of ink pads. Luckily, I only have about 5 ink pads that aren't SU (versamark, embossing, black stazon, etc.). I do have two retired SU pads, those fit in there don't they? I also don't have ANY reinkers :( so I could put my non-SU pads in that spot.
Englishrose, thanks for the pictures. What a wonderful hubby to make you that! For the type of space I have (my table is not against a wall) I really need the lazy susan type. I also really want to be able to travel with it. I stamp with my sister and aunt's sometimes and my aunt's don't have any SU pads! How dreadful!
Nope, NOT the minority. I could NOT stand mine. I would suggest the OP search similar threads regarding the caddy! Obviously to each their own, but POOP in my opinion. That is the ONE and ONLY SU product that I have EVER been dissapointed in!

I got mine a few months ago and I, too, thought it was hard to turn so I invested in a sturdy lazy susan. It's wooden with a removable glass top, so the caddy sits on it perfectly!! I'm ordering the extender very soon!!! Then all my ink pads will be just a spin away!!!
I received mine last week. I was hesitant about buying one but now I'm glad that I did. I think it is sturdy. Not as sturdy as a wooden unit would be but as stated they are a bit more expensive that the SU caddy. One day I will have my husband build one for me. Poor guy has a list of things that I want him to build.

I got the idea from some one else I will find the pic in the gallery and post it I am looking for it now.

Well I just got mine last week... It is a bit flimsy, and doesn't turn to well but I do love how nice the stamp pads fit in it!! I think I will get the extender kit too yet!
Could anyone tell me if it's possible to use the extender on it's own? I got some of the wonderful Dzyntec acrylic holders a few years ago, but since they're no longer available, I need something for the 'in colors' as well as my neutrals. I was new to the SU scene when I got them and didn't think past the four color families. Oops!
I decided not to go with the SU color caddy. There were just too many reports of it being kind of flimsy and not turning well. I also wanted a place for my markers. I found one on ebay that was just a couple dollars more (with shipping) than SU's with the extender.
