I seem to have a problem with the basics of using my paper cutter. For example, when I cut a piece of 8 1/2 by 11 to a 4 1/4 by 5 1/2, then I fold the card, there is a tiny overlap. When I try to cut a rectangle or square, the result, one end is bigger by a smiggen.
Does anyone have any advice? I use the fiskars paper cutters, both the really big one and the small one that is about 10 inches.
Fiskars are notorious for this issue. I have the 12" one and had the smaller one and they both did it. You can contact Fiskars, they'll send you another one, but it'll do it too. I did buy the triple track one and it's better than the old one...but really, you need a Carl or Tonic or Genesis to get straight cuts.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
I am so ready to give up on my Fiskars cutter. I thought I was nuts, not being able to cut a straight line. I think I 'll be getting the guilletine(sp?) Tonic cutter from Joanns sooner than I thought!!!!

I have used the smaller paper cutters and find that my indutsrial office paper cutter is absolutely the best. I NEVER have that issue anymore. You can probably look online in the Office Depot or Office Max websites or just do a search for them. They are much bigger than the Fiskars cutters and you can't take them to stamping/scrapping events but they are awesome at home in your craftroom. You can see mine in my gallery. I just uploaded all my craft room pics yesterday.........Good Luck and Happy New Year!
My fiskers cutter will do that if I don't hold the plastic ruler part together as I slide the cutter. Doing that seems to make the cutter slide straighter.
I definately though want to try these newer cutters that seem to be better.

My small Fiskers is okay - like you said Cassi, if I hold firmly to the plastic guides. But the big guy (with the "chopper arm" as my DD says) that I paid a lot of money for is a piece of junk!! If I set the paper guide to 5 1/2 inches, i get more like 5 5/8!! HUGE learning curve on figuring out where to put the guide to get what I need.
I will try contacting Fiskers again, but I have had no luck so far.
I just bought the fold up making memories cutter and it seems pretty good. I threw out the small fiskars because I was so sick of it! I have a large rotary fiskars that is pretty good, but this making memories one is great so far!
