Default stitching cards?

How do you do it? Do you just use your sewing machine or is there a special one for scrapbookers? I thought I saw one once, but I'm not sure. I'm not a sewer and would rather use something small and not a real sewing machine....anyone know of a card stitching machine? thanks!

If you don't want to use a sewing machine, you might like this new tool by We R Memory Keepers:

We R Memory Keepers - Sew Easy - Stitch Piercer Tool

If you decide to try it, you should know that you need a special mat to use it on, so that the piercer can go down into the cardstock. The one they sell to go with it seems to be the kind that works best.

Also, you can buy the basic tool and one basic head, but there are different decorative stitch heads available to use with it.

Some people just use their paper piercer tool and make a line of evenly spaced holes where they want the stitching to be. Then use a needle and thread to hand sew through the holes.

I have seen people do what they call "faux stitching". In this technique, you pierce the holes, then just use a fine tip marker or pen to connect the holes so it looks like a stitched edge.

If you decide you want an actual small sewing machine, the Janome Sew Mini is what lots and lots of people buy for paper crafting. Here is a link to read about it. It sells at Hancocks for about $60, but they have it on sale from time to time.

Hi there...

I bought a small sewing machine just to do stitching on cards because i didnt want to possibly damage my GOOD quilt sewing machine.

Ginak and lots of other people use the Janome sew mini.. its great, small, portable, light etc... look it up.. you can get it on sale for $39 most of the time!

I just use my sewing machine and change needles for fabric. You need to clean the paper bits out of the machine but I haven't found any problems using paper and fabric in the same machine yet. But I have a lower end machine and mostly sew on paper with it. If I had a really expensive machine I probably would not

btw I tried several of the tiny "scrapbooking" sewing machines before buying my regular machine, I found them all to be total junk! The Janome wasn't out yet though so I have not tried it.

I love Janome mini. Only use it for sewing on cards and its light and easy to use. I got it a Hancocks Fabrics online and it was on sale for $39 with free shipping. Best $39 I ever spent! Love it!

I also bought a Janome Sew Mini to use exclusively on paper. I didn't want to take any chances with my Bernina.

Before using a high-end, computerized sewing machine on paper, read Gina K's post about a warning from Pfaff: sewing on cards by Darlene G at Splitcoaststampers

YUP!! great post from Ginak.. I have a high end computerized Pfaff quilting/sewing machine and didnt want to take any chances.. I decided it was MUCH more beneficial to pay $39 for a Janome Sew mini that I can dedicate to paper.. heck thats cheaper than servicing my pfaff ONCE! LOL

I love my Sew Mini.. its GREAT!!

I've been using my janome sew mini for almost 4 years now and it's still going strong. I use it all the time on my cards and layouts.
