Can anyone recommend a good ink to stamp on material...obviously staz-on won't work because that is best on non porous things...anything besides craft inks?
LOL, Linda...I just snorted my dessert OUT my nose! Don't DO that without a spew warning, lol!!
As for stamping on banDANAs, I'd use craft ink or fabric paint. Pre-wash it and dry without using any fabric softener. Then when the ink is dry, heat set it from the back side with your iron (usually as hot as the fabric will allow). You can also heat set it in the dryer, but I always feel like if I'm going to all that trouble to stamp the thing, I want to take as much care with it as possible.
You'll want to use Palette inks or any other fabric ink. Palette has a HUGE line of colors out there. Just make sure you don't use fabric softener on the item being stamped. And heat set afterward with an iron.
Tsukineko makes VERSACRAFT which is made for fabric (used to be known as Fabrico). All you have to do is heat set it with your iron and it washes beautifully!

Thanks Sherrie! I started to mention Fabrico, but then I couldn't remember if it was even available anymore. Good to know!
I'll second Sherrie's recommendation of Versacraft - stamps beautifully and washes really well (even on onesies!).
Absolutely. The reason I generally use fabric paint is that it just makes the most sense to use a medium that's specifically formulated for the job. While some inks work "ok," wherever possible I use things for their intended purpose. And just think....! All those luscious colors in the Versacraft!
In the past when I have stamped on fabric, the ink spreads and gives a "fuzzy" outline/stamped image. Does the versacraft ink act the same way or because it is designed for use with fabric offer up a sharp crisp image?

Yes, I've found it gives a crisp image. You can see a set of onesies I did with it here if that helps you get an impression (these were pure cotton, knitted fabric).

I've found that Copics don't perform well if you are going to wash your item. Those onesies lost most of the Copic colour on first laundry and then all of it on subsequent washes. The Verscraft outluine and wording stayed perfectly dark and crisp though so they still looked cute! The other thing with Copics on fabric is that it tends to travel along the fibres so you have to colour really carefully so that it doesn't bleed outside your stamped lines - totally doable but might take a bit of practise! But taking all those things into account, if you still want to do it, I found the ink was fine with Copics on fabric (maybe because you're staying well inside the line though, it does bleed if you use it on paper and then colour with Copics).
The other thing I meant to say about Versacraft is that it comes in the little cubes as well as full size pads so you can get a reasonable colour selection on a smaller budget!
