Good idea, Kimberly! You could use just about anything, as long as it isn't too thick! And you could ink it, even (probably be better if it wasn't chipboard). TFS!

I jumped on the GC bandwagon this weekend, thanks to an AC Moore 50% off coupon! My question is this - can I use the sandwich upside down if I want to cut an image I have already stamped? I know I can tape it all down and turn it over, etc. but I'd rather just be able to lay the die on top of the image and run it through, like I did with my Big Shot. If I use the cutting pad on the bottom and the base plate on the top, what difference will it make?

As long as you are making sure the cut blade of the die is facing the cutting mat it will work fine!

hmmmm...I don't know Lorraine...I just used a shim of two pieces of cardstock and it worked out great. We did this is in a class I taught the other night. One person used a Cuttlebug, one a Wizard, and the others a Grand Calibur. They all had success. Wish I knew how to help. Maybe send me a PM and I can try to help.
I don't think the Wizard is still being made. Guess there were a lot of people who had difficulty with it and received no company help.
Oh, I didn't realize that the Grand Calibur by Spellbinders was replacing the Wizard. Thanks for the heads up.
So I'll revise my question: I know that the Grand Calibur can use larger thin dies. But other than that, can the Grand Calibur or Wizard do anything that I can't do with the Big Shot? They can't use the steel rule dies from Sizzix, right?

Right! The Grand Kalibur can cut larger dies but it can't cut thick steel rule dies like Bigz. The raspberry Wizard was their most compatible machine as it will cut most types of dies, but it won't fit the larger Grand Nesties.
I had purchased a GK but returned it when I found out that it was not a matter of them releasing a new set of sandwich plates to accommodate the Bigz dies, but that the roller spacing is actually too tight.
So other than not fitting the larger sizes in a grand die set, your Big Shot can do the same things. I am in the same boat. I only have room for one machine. I bought the extended plates for my Cuttlebug instead when they were 40% off at Joanns. I can cut many of the grand dies, just not the larger one or two in the set.
What I really want is a Grand Vagabond!!! My dream machine is a Vagabond that will accommodate the Grand Nestabilities!!! Tim, are you listening? Hahaha!
I have both the Wizard and the Big Shot machines. But I never use the Wizard, because I find the Big Shot so much easier to use.
Is there anything that you can do with the Wizard that you can't do with a Big Shot? Maybe I am missing out on something!

I used my Wizard to flatten bottle caps and costume jewelry I pick up at tag sales to use as embellishments. I don't think the Big Shot is able to do that.

Great idea! I have some old earrings that are too bulky to use on cards but would be fun for other projects.

Could I just ask whether those who have the Grand Calibur are very happy with it? I already have a Big Shot and love it, but would REALLY like the grand nesties. Has it been a good purchase? (I am looking at scrapping as well as my usual cardmaking so I wanetd the bigger diecut shapes). I just feel a bit profligate having two machines ... Am I easy? ;)
I have a Big Shot Pro, so I'll be able to use the Grand Nesties without having to buy the Calibur. However, I read a post on another board that said the Calibur machine is under $100. That's a great price for a large-format cutter, IMO.
Meg can you tell me the sandwich for the Grand Nesties and the BSP? I just got my BSP Westminster yesterday (finally!) and my first set of Grand Nesties (Grand Labels 4) are on their way.....but I don't know the sandwich

Hey everyone! so im new to the forum and obviously to this topic so i dont know if what im going to ask has already been covered and answered or not. But how do you use the nestablities with the Big Shot express. And where can i buy whatever it is that i need to get them to work. cos i brought one set already thinking i could use them and they just wont work :(

I haven't tried any of the really large Sizzix dies because I don't think the machine is wide enough to accomodate them, but I use Sizzix red and smaller green dies in my Wizard with out a problem.
I have the Gina K All Occasion Tags stamp set and I also purchased the Grommet Tags from Spellbinders.
Can someone tell me do you stamp then cut? Or cut then stamp. Either way I think I will have trouble lining up the nestie or the stamp.

Not sure if this helps, but I saw a utube video of someone using a Cuttlebug with Spellbinders dies and she used small pieces acid free tape to hold the die where she wanted it on the paper while cutting. I haven't tried it myself, so I can't say for sure that it will work but it might be worth a try. I'm interested to see what others have to say about it. I have trouble with the dies moving around when I cut them too so I usually stamp the image after cutting. But sometimes it takes me a couple of tries to get the image in the right place. If you find something that works, I'd be interested to hear it too. Good luck!!
I use tape too. The tape I use is actually a low stick painter's tape (as in wall painter) The one I use is blue, and I can use the same pieces over and over and they do not mark the paper at all. I would find it extremely difficult to line a stamp up properly on a nestie after it had been cut.
I normally stamp and then cut. I tape the die down with mini Post-It Notes. However, I just looked at the stamp set your are referring to and the stamped image goes all the way to the edge.
I would use the Heartfelt Creations system . They cut a template first and use that to line up the die with the stamped image

Mine work fine. Roll it through once and then turn it 90 degrees and roll it through again.
I also found that these tags are so intricate that you need to put a piece of wax paper between the die and the cardstock to get the cardstock to release from the die.
Be sure your wax paper doesn't have any creases on it as those will transfer to the cut tag
We found you need to use the wax paper technique with the pendant dies too

I've not had trouble with the intricate nesties but I do hate having to sit there and poke out the holes that cut but don't pop out, my desk looks like a confetti bomb hit it.

Question... can you use dies made for the Presto punch in the CB/BS etc or do you have to have the Presto Punch?

I'm a bit confused as to what extras I need to buy in order to run my nesties through a vagabond. Looking at the Joanns site I can see some contenders, but not sure if they are the right ones (need a site that will post to my hotel as I'm coming from the UK to Florida on holiday). Here is a link on the Sizzix website for what you need to use the wafer-thin (Spellbinders) dies in the Vagabond. I have no idea about Sizzix.com shipping policies so no help there, sorry.
