Check at Office Max, in the copy center. If you ask them for it, they will sell it to you by the sheet for a decent price.
I checked our office max and asked 3 different employees and no one had a clue. On a fluke, I asked the guy at the copy center and he knew exactly what I wanted.
I got mine at Staples, when you ask the associates for it ask for transparencies most of them know what that is, and it is just acetate with a fancier name. I can't remember how much it was but I know I got 100 sheets for under $30 Canadian.
If you know any teachers (I was one now retired) they may have some to sell. I know I had to buy my own. There was never enough$$ in the budget to cover those. If you were in the Dallas area I would give you some of mine! i only have 95 left.
I find the transparancy sheets aren't strong enough for a card base and would like to find some of that thicker stuff...but no go so far. Will try the links above... thanks.
I put out a request on my local Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) and I got 3 BOXES of acetate for FREE! A lot of companies don't use it anymore so they're just itching to get rid of it, apparently. Schools, too. Guess overheads are outdated now?!
I was told someone bought some at Hobby Lobby, no luck.
I was told office supply and I went to Staples, no luck.
I give up, where are you all finding this stuff. I would like to buy locally if possible rather that mail order.
Help!
Ask for Grafix DuraLar (you can see it at www.grafixarts.com,) at Hobby Lobby. It'll probably be in the grafic arts section, or possibley the drafting section. DuraLar is not heat sensitive, so you can use a heat gun with it. However...if you're using a Milwaukee or other high heat gun, hold the gun a distance from the acetate.
Subscribing. For what are you using the acetate? Is it really the same as overhead projector stuff? I have a box of that with a bunch of colors that my retired school teacher dad gave me. I'd love to have suggestions on how to use it. Or, if that isn't what you're talking about, let me know that, too. Thanks!
While I agree that acetate sheets are a bit thicker than the transparency sheets, I don't think the transparency sheets are too thin for most projects. I have used them for card bases, pillow boxes in the Big Shot, and other types of handcrafted boxes, all with good results.

Great idea!! :p and for a great price too! can't beat that. ;) I'm gonna have to try too now of course....LOL
You might try Xpedx....ask for cover weight acetate. It is thicker than regular transparencies and works well for cards. Probably any copy shop would sell you this by the sheet. Like a previous poster, I get mine by the sheet for about .65 at the copy center in Office Max.
and while I did read it was acetate you were asking about, I just thought a good thread to pass along a tip from another list I belong to. It was for a cheap alternative to using acetate if you want. You know the clear tablecloth vinyl? Apparently you can stamp on it real easy!
I've found them at Wal-Mart in the office supplies section. Can't remember how much but it wasn't much as I just wanted a few sheets to play around with.

My Wal-Mart use to carry them but doesn't anymore.:(
I used acetate for my Christmas cards last year--I got my pkg of 100 for ~ 12.00 @ Xpedex, but I also would suggest asking for "transparencies" as seasonal help might know what that is before "acetate". Hope it helps.
Staples had their own store brand overhead transparencies at 100 sheets for around $20 when I got mine. The type that is for laser printers cost more. And yes, I have a lot left, lol!
