Default So where EXACTLY are you all buying Acetate?

I was told someone bought some at Hobby Lobby, no luck.

I was told office supply and I went to Staples, no luck.

I give up, where are you all finding this stuff. I would like to buy locally if possible rather that mail order.

Help!

Check at Office Max, in the copy center. If you ask them for it, they will sell it to you by the sheet for a decent price.

I checked our office max and asked 3 different employees and no one had a clue. On a fluke, I asked the guy at the copy center and he knew exactly what I wanted.

I get mine from www.flourishes.org it's about $4 for 10 sheets. It's not as the ink jet acetate, its thicker, which works great for me.

I got mine at Staples, when you ask the associates for it ask for transparencies most of them know what that is, and it is just acetate with a fancier name. I can't remember how much it was but I know I got 100 sheets for under $30 Canadian.

If you know any teachers (I was one now retired) they may have some to sell. I know I had to buy my own. There was never enough$$ in the budget to cover those. If you were in the Dallas area I would give you some of mine! i only have 95 left.

Here is where I got mine:

This one is VERY thick, almost too thick for cards. But it would make great pages in a clear album, and can be cut in a die cut machine, and embossed.

https://www.shopatron.com/product/pa...63.35940.0.0.0

This one is thinner, but it is thicker than your average transparency, so perfect for cards!

https://www.shopatron.com/product/pa....24363.0.0.0.0

Both weights come in 12X12, 6X6, and 8X8. The .007 weight comes in 8.5X11, and the .020 weight comes in 4X4, and 6X9.

I get mine at Staples. It's called Transparancy sheets and like someone else said in the aisle with the overhead projectors.

I find the transparancy sheets aren't strong enough for a card base and would like to find some of that thicker stuff...but no go so far. Will try the links above... thanks.

I found these, but I was told that acetate was a little thicker than transparencies and better to work with.

I put out a request on my local Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) and I got 3 BOXES of acetate for FREE! A lot of companies don't use it anymore so they're just itching to get rid of it, apparently. Schools, too. Guess overheads are outdated now?!

Ask for Grafix DuraLar (you can see it at www.grafixarts.com,) at Hobby Lobby. It'll probably be in the grafic arts section, or possibley the drafting section. DuraLar is not heat sensitive, so you can use a heat gun with it. However...if you're using a Milwaukee or other high heat gun, hold the gun a distance from the acetate.

Have you tried Dick Blick art supplies. They have a great selection of sizes, thicknesses, and colors. You can even get it on rolls.

Subscribing. For what are you using the acetate? Is it really the same as overhead projector stuff? I have a box of that with a bunch of colors that my retired school teacher dad gave me. I'd love to have suggestions on how to use it. Or, if that isn't what you're talking about, let me know that, too. Thanks!

While I agree that acetate sheets are a bit thicker than the transparency sheets, I don't think the transparency sheets are too thin for most projects. I have used them for card bases, pillow boxes in the Big Shot, and other types of handcrafted boxes, all with good results.

You might try Xpedx....ask for cover weight acetate. It is thicker than regular transparencies and works well for cards. Probably any copy shop would sell you this by the sheet. Like a previous poster, I get mine by the sheet for about .65 at the copy center in Office Max.

and while I did read it was acetate you were asking about, I just thought a good thread to pass along a tip from another list I belong to. It was for a cheap alternative to using acetate if you want. You know the clear tablecloth vinyl? Apparently you can stamp on it real easy!

If you get transparancies at the office supply stores, don't buy the ink jet type. The are coated on the printing side so they are not clear.

I've found them at Wal-Mart in the office supplies section. Can't remember how much but it wasn't much as I just wanted a few sheets to play around with.

I think my UL told me that she buys hers at Office Depot and it is $30 for 100 sheets. She said it was supposed to be a little thicker.

Ive been getting mine here and I love them
ShortCuts Clear and Frosted Sheets

They are thick enough to use as a card base and fingerprint resistant.

I just purchased a pack of 100 sheets from Samsclub.com. It was $12.83 INCLUDING shipping! I searched all over and this was the cheapest I found.

Default Acetate

I purchased my acetate sheets from RitzCamera.com. I love staming on it.
I used acetate for some of my Christmas cards this year.

The acetate at Ritz Camera is called Computer Graffix. It is a little heavier than overhead transp. A little pricey but nice.

I used acetate for my Christmas cards last year--I got my pkg of 100 for ~ 12.00 @ Xpedex, but I also would suggest asking for "transparencies" as seasonal help might know what that is before "acetate". Hope it helps.

Staples had their own store brand overhead transparencies at 100 sheets for around $20 when I got mine. The type that is for laser printers cost more. And yes, I have a lot left, lol!
