So I bought a Grand Calibur....

so I could use some of my longer dies on my card edges...they just wouldn't go through my Cuttlebug...and I'm very happy with the Grand Calibur but my friend was telling me I could have purchased the Big Shot because it has a wider opening than the Cuttlebug. Is this true? I do love the Grand Calibur and have no intention of returning it, but I was sure I'd heard or read that the opening on the Big shot isn't any wider.
Anyone know?

I have both the big shot and Grand Calibur. I purchased some of the Spellbinders grand dies and they will not fit the big shot. My sizzix dies do not fit in the grand calibur so i guess it just depends on what you have and use.

I also have both the BS and GC. Bought the GC on sale for half price so I could use some of the oversize dies that did not fit in the BS. Now I use it more with the Sizzix fancy card dies designed by Stephanie Barnard because she instructs users not to send them through a die cutting machine straight, place it on the platform at a slight angle. ('NO SPEED BUMPS') the GC is good for the wafer thin dies.

Cuttlebug and Big Shot/Kick are mostly the same size width opening.

I have the Epic for the steel dies like Tim Holtz. I bought it used really cheap. Then I got the Grand Calibur at Hobby Lobby for like $53. I love it. Especially, with the spellbinders embossing dies. I absolutely love it. It embosses so beautifully. Honestly, if you want to use the chunky sizzix or Tim Holtz dies you will need another machine as they do not go through the GC.

I found a grand caliber on clearance for $50 got it and then took it back, about three weeks later they were marked down to $20 so picked one up, also found some of their mega nesties on clearance. I like the grand caliber for certain things. Michaels just had some of their bigger embossing folders on clearance for $2.99

I have this thing with die cutting on my GC lately. I'm finishing up some decor for work and Xmas cards that are going out tomorrow. I made all of these little Spellbinders Holly Wreaths. I love them. I didn't have any red crystals to place on top of the wreath. I got lucky at Tuesday Morning. They had a red bottle of adirondack dimensional pearls in Red. 1.49. I got two bottles at that price. I think that will touch off my Spellbinders Holly Wreaths perfect.

The sale I hit was a clearance at a hobby lobby in NW Iowa, the stuff is all gone now they did not have much just the two machines for $20 each (actually I bought both of them and sold one on Craigslist for $50- so that paid for mine) and they did not have many grand size nesties- I was there the other day and they had nothing left, actually their clearance section was bare.
I love Tues M. as well so glad u found some red embellishments that would work. would love to see a pic of your wreaths.........................shar
