Here is my most used adhesive:
PLUS Glue Tape TG-620BC - Better than liquid glue or paste
I like it because it has a dot-pattern, it holds really well and refills are available through a few places (Simon Says Stamp, for example, as well as Office Supply website, where they can be bought in bulk). I found it easy to refill, without having to twist and turn bits to fiddle with the tape. I did have a couple of occasions where the dispenser got a little gummy, but it was very simple to clean and it didn't affect the runner a whole lot due to the dot pattern (at most, you'd see a thinner dispensed line).
My second recommendation is Tombow MONO dot adhesive:
MONO Adhesive Dots - Adhesives + Glues - Art + Craft
What I like about this one is similar to the first -- available via several stores, including Amazon, and the dot pattern. I've found that the refills for this one are very affordable (packs of 3, and great to stock up on during sales) and simple to switch out. The refills come with their own dispenser area, so if you get any gummy spots, they won't transfer to the next refill.
Lastly, I've also tried the Scotch Adhesive Dot Roller:

This one might be a good option to those that can find refills in their local stores (I know my Walmart and Michael's carry it). I grabbed a pack from Amazon to just tried out, and found it to be very strong and easy to dispense.
Hope that helps!
