I own several different tools at this point and decided we need a thread that shares ONLY what we know does and does not work. No guessing! (I also noticed that there are several threads half talking about this and a couple ended up turning into discussions about other stuff.)
My goal is to answer the following questions:
1) What fits in the Cuttlebug? and what does not...
2) Can I cut framelits with a Sizzix Boutique?
3) Do the new 6x6 embossing folders fit Cuttlebug?
4) How can I prevent breaking my Vagabond or Big Shot?
So... Here goes.
MACHINES
1) Sizzix Big Shot and Tim Holtz Vagabond are the same in size allowances except the Vagabond is plugged in and will break immediately (and be irreparable) if the sandwich is too fat (known from experience) (very-sad-face)
. . . a) Width: about 6 1/4 inches
. . . b) Max sandwich height: about 1 1/4 inches
. . . c) Platform length: Long (extended), about 13 1/2 inches
. . . d) LIMITATIONS:
. . . . . . 1- Ummmm not many...
. . . . . . 2- Unless you count how expensive it is to replace the machine when you break the Vagabond by forgetting the sandwich rules!
. . . e) BENEFITS:
. . . . . . 1- VAGABOND- Great for saving your shoulder/arm when doing a big job
. . . . . . 2- BIG SHOT- Great for developing arm strength and looking buffed and using during a power outage or tent camping. (ooh la la!)
2) Cuttlebug
. . . a) Width: about 6 inches
. . . b) Max sandwich height: about 1 1/4 inches
. . . c) Platform length: Medium length- about 11 1/4 inches
. . . d) LIMITATIONS:
. . . . . . 1- Cannot use any Sizzix plates or cutting pads (they are too wide)
. . . . . . 2- Cannot use any Sizzix BigZ dies (again, too wide)
. . . . . . 3- Cannot use Sizzix Magnetic plate (... too wide!)
. . . . . . 4- CAN use 6x6 plate- but only in one direction
. . . e) BENEFITS:
. . . . . . 1- Small and lightweight
. . . . . . 2- Great suction cups to hold onto table
3) Sizzix Boutique
. . . a) Width: about 5 inches (or a hair smaller than that)
. . . b) Max sandwich height: about 5/16 of an inch
. . . c) Platform length: very short- plates that come with it are about 7.25 inches and the area you can work with for cutting is about 5 inches
. . . d) LIMITATIONS:
. . . . . . 1- Same as Cuttlebug's limitations 1-3
. . . . . . 2- Cannot use 6x6 plate (much too big)
. . . . . . 3- CAN cut small framelits/thinlits- but you need to make special sandwich to do so. It was very, very easy- I added 3 shims made from a thin plastic cutting surface/board I bought at the $ store to make a sandwich to fit the small sandwich height of the Boutique.
(SEE PHOTO)
. . . e) BENEFITS:
. . . . . . 1- Very small and lightweight
ACCESSORIES
1) Cuttlebug plates- width: 5 7/8 inches, length: 7 3/4 inches (more narrow than Sizzix)
2) Sizzix plates- width: 6 inches, length: 8 7/8 inches
3) Sizzix white thick plate (#03512) thickness: 7/16 inch
4) Sizzix Magnetic plate thickness: just a sliver over 1/2 inch (essentially a little over 1/16 of an inch thicker!)
I assume the new Sizzix Precision plate is the same width and length- but someone else will have to measure it's width! (No guessing!) (Maybe take a photo and add it to this thread?)
I've included some photos- I wrote what they show on the watermark on each photo.
Hope this helps some folks out there...
Happy crafting to all!!
