Default Sharpie markers

Does anybody know what kind of ink is in the Sharpie markers? Is it alcohol b
ased? Just wondering. I bought some ShrinkyDinks yesterday and thought I would play around with them and it says you have to use alcohol inks or any permanant ink marker. Didn't know if Sharpies would work. Don't want to try until I know they will work.
TIA for any help

Sharpies are permanent markers so I'd say go for it! I don't know if they are alcohol inks or not.

Sounds like fun!

Sharpie ink is very similar to the ink in Stazon, so I would think it would work great on ShrinkyDinks.
Have fun with your project!!

Sharpies aren't alcohol-based-I think they're acetone-based - but they were what we used on shrinky dinks back when my mom first brought them home back in the 70's. They work great!

Just remember - the colors all intensify once the plastic shrinks.

Colored pencil work great on the transparent shrink plastic. You color on the back side. When it shrinks the color is darker.

I prefer colored pencils v. Sharpies on Shrinky Dinks. In my experience, the Sharpie colors end up MUCH darker.

I tried the colored pencils on the shrink paper (not sure what it is called, but I bought it at AC Moore), and it didn't stick very well to the paper. Do you have to do anything to the paper first, like use sand paper???? Just wondering or maybe I need different colored pencils. THANKS.

Sharpies ARE alcohol ink-based. (I was TOLD this by the very Instructor WHO got Tim Holtz into Rubber Stamping years ago when he worked at Ben Franklin's)...

Use one on a paper clip or metal object--then wipe away with Rubbing Alcohol...it'll come right off.
;)
