Default Sewing Machine

I am thinking about getting a crafty sewing machine for Christmas. I don't sew so this would be for simple Cardmaking crafts. Simple stitching on my cards. What kind do you have? What is best and what is junk out there. What do you recommend for card stitching? help!

Many stampers here on SCS have the Janome Sew Mini, myself included. It is a good little machine, and is a "real" sewing machine, not a toy like some of the cheaper machines on the market. They sell it at Hancocks, and it's on sale right now:

Gina K has an excellent series of tutorials about using this machine for beginner sewers:

Here is the first one. Scroll down on the right to find the others:

You are welcome. I might let your know one thing about this dandy little machine - it does not have a built-in light like some sewing machines do. You will probably want a small "task" light on the table when you use it.

It really is a nice little machine for the money. I've sewed for years myself, and have a very nice Singer. I wanted another small machine for papercrafts.

My daughter, 38, borrowed my Sew Mini to learn to sew. She loved that it just has one speed when you push the pedal. She said other machines with a variable speed scared her because she was afraid they would go too fast and "run away with her." lol.

Well...this seems perfect for me since I am not a sewer. I can barely sew a button on something lol. One speed? Hope it's slow! I hope it isn't too complicated to thread either. That would just blow my mind, although I'd probably only have to thread it once with white thread and go till it runs out. Hehe. Thanks for the info. I'm looking on you tube now for tutorials. Gina K's one is not playing in my ipad.

Yes, the speed is slow. Some of the more experienced sewers did not like that, but it's great for beginners. And let's face it, sewing a few lines on a card is not like making draperies or something. Speed doesn't matter that much.

I use the Janome Sew Mini, too, I've been using mine for almost 6 years now and it still works great.

Hello Kitty Sewing machine

I have the Hello Kitty sewing machine...it is 3/4 machine made by Janome but bigger than the sew mini, but smaller than a full size machine. I love it so much that I have switched it to my fabric machine and my Brother full size machine (cheap model from Walmart) for paper.
